Jailhouse entrance near post office

Always busy Just next to the post office, was the Algarve's first night spot, Sob e Desce, "Up and Down", which had been registered in 1961 as the first discotheque  in Portugal.

The proprietor was an Irishman, also a Jazz buff, who played the saxophone. During the next twenty years, many famous artists and groups appeared at Sob e Desce, including Georgie Fame, Cat Stevens, Donavan and Ronnie Scott.

Built as a corn store in the 1950´s, the property has a beautiful timber roof and overhanging balcony on the first floor overlooking what is now the dance floor.

This tradition of Live music and entertainment continues and today The Jailhouse is the only bar in the area which offers live music and entertainment every night of the week with a fun, lively atmosphere.

The Live music starts at around 10.30 every evening and is followed by a late night "Classics" Disco if you feel like dancing till dawn.

In the early evening cocktails are served in a lovely garden area where you can sit and relax under a huge old Carob tree.
Or perhaps play pool and table football with your family on the covered roof terrace.

You will without doubt be given a warm welcome here whoever you are. Should you be a musician guest performances are encouraged in the tradition of this very special place.
