The most
commonly used ingredients are eggs, sugar and, above all, imagination.
Many of these specialities were originally made in convents and some of
them still bear names that allude to their origin, such as Toucinho do Céu
(literally rasher from heaven), barrigas de freira (nun`s belly), orelhas
de Abade (abbot`s ears) and papos de Anjo (angel`s porridge). |

the shape of fruits and vegetables in all kinds of different sizes. |

Bolo de mel rico |
A famous sweet from Madeira is the Bolo de
mel rico (rich honey-cake) and the Rebuçados de funcho
(boiled fennel sweets), made from the plant that gave its name to the
island`s capital (Funchal). |

Ovos Moles |
Ovos Moles de Aveiro (sweet eggs
from Aveiro), Palha (made from egg threads),
Tigeladas de Abrantes (made from eggs, milk and cinnamon), and
also Pão de Ló, a kind of sponge cake |
