Diary of a new local in Carvoeiro

The Essential Claudia

Now as I am sitting down to a healthy Saturday morning breakfast, I ponder on the empty space across the table. Being Saturday morning one would automatically assume that after a big party out in Carvoeiro the night before, some gorgeous babe should be sitting down to share my nutritious delights. No such luck for the poor old bachelor here!

These thoughts bring me to the current edition of the Essential Algarve, a glossy magazine produced in Lagoa. Amusingly enough a prim British lady writes into the letters section: "Itīs bad enough when even womenīs magazines these days show scantily-clad women on their covers but it is beyond me to understand why a magazine such as yours should need to stoop this low..."

STOOP THIS LOW? Why, I think that the Essential Algarve reached new heights with that cover. There is absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating the female form in all itīs natural beauty. Nudes have been studied for aeons by man and they are referred to as art. Anyway, my two cents worth is that Claudia is a stunning lady and that cover is really well taken - Iīd call it art of the highest calibre. So back to my breakfast table.

"Claudia, why did you let that man take such a provocative picture of you?"

Well, Nick", she replies in her alluring German accent "I thought it was called for". She downs the cup of hot rich coffee, I prepared for her and dives into the pool. "Nick, why donīt you come and join me?" Well hey, what am I supposed to do? I dive in...

It is always great to get celebrities visiting the Algarve, and I am sure many do without the media picking up on it. In Cape Town celebrities were always jetting in inconspicuously and relaxing in almost pure peace on the South African beaches. Iīm sure it is the same here in Portugal - I am told Madonna owns property in Quinta do Lago and Nick Price has a spot in one of the Pestana developments.

My week has been filled with work, for a change, as Steen and I busily prepare for a local function. The web cam went down this week, as you may have noticed, and that zapped two days out of our busy schedule. I am happy to report that is back up, so all of you who cannot experience the stunning Carvoeiran weather, treat yourself to a peek. I have great news: I signed up a lovely restaurant (to advertise on our pages) called the Casa Velha do Pescador. It is situated on a cliff overlooking Benagil beach, just east of Carvoeiro. The owners are extremely friendly and often haul me in for lunch if I am passing by on my bicycle. By the way, if you intend to cycle through Benagil, be prepared for steep gradients. It might be wise to stop off for a rest at the Casa Velha do Pescador.

Another addition to the web site is a chat forum or room or board - whatever you would like to call it. We are busy having great fun testing it and Iīm sure it will be ready for normal consumption in the coming weeks. Please be nice when using it and I plan to host a couple of hours a week - let me know what day and time is most suitable for you and Iīll try and arrange it. It could be a very useful tool to find out more about this great village of ours (or more officially, this great town of ours!).

I thought it might be useful to show you a receipt from a little shopping excursion to the Intermarché - itīs not the usual bread and milk stuff, but I might scan a more useful receipt in soon.

Well, thatīs all for this week. I hope you are enjoying these little diaries of mine. Looking forward to seeing more of you in Carvoeiro!

Cheers
