I agree with all thats been said about our 'pretentious writer', Its a case of being prudent and careful, and if it means I can spend "more time" in Carvoeiro by buying carefully, all the better. Lets hope second thoughts have now prevailed, and that all us scrooges will enjoy Chistmas knowing we can be in Carvoeiro before we know it thanks to these obliging airlines. I too bought for £10 and will be there in January, pity about the summer with bmibaby.com maybe they will have second thoughts as time goes on, especially if they are reading these messages. I have 'e' mailed them with my disapointment, perhaps it would make a difference if everyong did the same. HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY and I mean 'everybody'.

What a pretentious person!!

Fancy writing "Basically if you can't afford it don't travel"

All I can say is - if you're daft enough to pay inflated prices for travel and accomodation, more fool you!

If money is your prime reason for living, then you've missed out on a lot! Some of my happiest moments were when our children were little and we had hardly any money. We spent many happy "holidays" going to a park with our picnic, playing games and swimming in the outdoor heated pool. The best times were when all our friends and children came with us!

I think you may have led a very sad life.

By the way, we'll be coming to Carvoeiro in Feb again on our £10 flights!!

From a very happy budget flyer!!

You need a 1.20 dish to receive all the free to air and sky stuff including films and sport without problems. It sounds like you have just brought a place and the dish is already there, but does it have a digital transponder pointing back at it. Let me know.

Sky TV - Providing your dish is at least a 1.10Mtr, you will require a Digibox, and a current Viewing card. Sky1 is almosts impossible to get in this area, but all the Film and Sports Channels will be OK. All the best.

To the the smart alec who wrote the last message go back and check previous messages and get the full history behind this exchange of messages. Whoever said we cant afford it? You've obviously missed the whole point. One of the benefits of this message board is the exchange of information and help between fellow travellers, not the sort of pretentious clap trap from someone who obviously has more money than sense. To everyone else who has placed sensible, informative messages on this board, I thank you and wish you all a very Happy Christmas!

Oh I forgot - we KNOW that budget airline prices increase as you get nearer the date (see previous messages)but with bmibaby they have a system all of their own and actually you are wrong in their case because if one took a chance in the summer and left it until a few days before date of travel, the tickets were down to £60.00 return - and that information not only came from a fellow traveller but also from a member of bmibaby staff. NEXT!

all the budget airlines increase their seat prices as they fill up. This is simply supply and demand. if you are the only guy that painted the mona lisa then it is going to be worth bucks!

the last seat on a particular flight will always be at a premium - unless of course you are a regular charter carrier when after a certain cut off date you offer the seats to various bucket shops and sell 'em cheap to get some extra petrol money in.

Basically if you can't afford it - don't travel!

I do subscribe to the bmibaby e-mail info and they still get it wrong! I purchased Flights, after receiving one of their newletters, for £25.00each way and though what a bargain, only to log on the next day to find another newsletter informing me of their latest offer of £10.00 each way!! So, if I'd only waited 24hours for a second e-mail I could've saved myself £30.00 + taxes. Easyjet have by far and away the best system, you know where you stand and the longer you leave it the more expensive it becomes. Simple. If you've never paid more that £28.00 or whatever then all I can say is lucky you. I booked the flights as soon as I could access the site earlier in the year for the summer and still it cost £260.00 + taxes and they had my money for a good 6 months or more! I also get the impression that the right hand has absolutely no idea whatsoever what the left hand is doing. So unprofessional, so unlike British Midland. Perhaps they should stick to what they do best, and excellent scheduled service and jump off the "cheap & cheerful but not really" bandwagon! From an exceedingly disappointed bmibaby customer!

Just to say to the person who said it's a lottery. The trick is to subscribe to receive the email offers, and be prepared to be flexible with your travel dates and airports. I've never paid more than £28.50, single route, yet!

Yes - good independent travel agents are also good for flights as they take the time to look! Sometimes you can get a cheap package deal for less than some flights. You just don't stay in their grot accomodation and locations!

As for the bmibaby girl - she probably said that as she hasn't a clue!

We'll just have to post a message as each one of us finds the deals!!

When I fianlly reached bmibaby by phone on Friday 6th they confirmed to me that flights were not going to Faro from East Midlads this summer. She then went on to say "well not for the time being" but could not give me any further information. I was left feeling that perhaps it is under review and they may decide to fly to Faro after all. If anyone hears anything further it would be good to share it here.

Go/easyjet flights from Bristol/Stanstead/E.Mids look like options for next summer but may also be worth looking at some scheduled flights. I flew with bmibaby during August and they were the most expensive flights I've had to Faro so I disagree with the comment they were the cheapest.I paid £80.00 more per person than I had previously on a scheduled flight. Its the same with any of these so called 'cut-price' airlines - its a lottery. If you happen to be browsing the web site at the right time - brilliant, otherwise forget it. Try your good old fashioned Travel Agent, sometimes they can get good deals on inclusive holiday/flight charters that arent full! Good luck everyone!!!!

For those of you who have probably been trying desparately (like me) to get through to bmibaby.comfor the summer flights to Faro DONT BOTHER! Guess what, after trying for 10 HOURS, both on the net and the telephone I finally got through at 6.00pm to be told "Sorry bmibaby isn't flying into Faro during the summer". So why didn't they tell us that on the website? Because they still make loads of money from our 'phone calls when we do eventually get through to an automated messaging service and then have to wait for another 20 minutes to actually speak to someone - that's why. Looks like the bubbles burst folks. HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

We really need that forum.

For years strangers have been exchanging experiences on this message board including but not limited to travel and accomodation costs.

Although the users are not registered and it could be someone with malicious intent, I do not see how/why publishing the cost you incurred for your accomodation is a problem.

The more information is made available to consumers, the lower the probability of fraud or excessive prices amongst suppliers.

Terri

Don't know where you live, but have a look at bmibaby website. They are selling 2 for 1 tickets from Cardiff and East Midlands in a few days, for flights in January 2003. Hope you haven't booked flights already?!

I'm very tempted but after getting free flights in Nov and again booking £10 flights for a week in Feb, it seems a bit greedy!!

WEBMASTER: How about a link to these sights? Maybe they may help income? On second thoughts - perhaps not - too many of us booking might mean someone gets the offers before me!!! (Mean aren't I?!)

Roll on Feb 2003!!

Re Cristal, No not stayed but enjoyed the bar and lunchtime food in there which is very good. The ambiance is also good and not as "starchy" as the Carvoeiro Sol and Almansor which are also very good hotels. It's a cab into town though in the evenings but the cabs are well priced and very reliable. Make sure you get a sea view and hire a car. In the absence of an available villa, I would go for it. There's not much difference in the price!

Re:- Sardines on the beach!!! As a family, our first visit to Carvoeiro was in 1984, and we have returned at least twice a year ever since. Needless to say we regard Carvoeiro as our second home. We have two daughters. one of which is now married and has recently spent her honeymoon in Carvoeiro, and one son who we believe could be of Portuguese origin!!! We remember the days when the only way in and out of Carvoeiro was via what is now the in road, the original market, made up of stalls run by locals, was the last existance on todays out road and is now the ceramic open air market. Building has been prolific over the years and a new visitor would not believe how Carvoeiro has expanded in such a relatively short period of time. There are only a few original premises left in the village centre, many have been re-built over the years. It has been sad watching the originality decline but then its all in the name of progress. We remember sitting in Bar Soriso (Smilers Bar)with local washing lines just across the road, and what bloomers they were too. As far as sardines on the beach, we only remember Bar Aida, which is still there although maybe a little more upgraded, where a sardine meal cost if our memories serve us right was 169 Escudos, those were the days!! Our family still love to return and we will be back in January, and we can't wait. "ISN'T IT GOOD TO HAVE WONDERFUL MEMORIES" Greetings from Wales

We have just returned from a wonderful fortnight in Carvoeiro. The weather wasn't too good but we met a lovely couple called PAT and AINSLEY whose knowledge about the place and food was incredible. Apparently they used to run MUNGO'S BAR (daytime) during the Summer season. There are a few comments on the Guest Book and Message Board. We feel that they would be an asset to MUNGO'S BAR should they run it again next year.

Can anyone give us the name & address of a vet in the Carvoeiro/Lagoa area? The vet should be approved for vaccination under the UK pet passport scheme. Has anyone had any recent experience of vets in the area? Please e-mail rosemary.bennett@ntlworld.com

Please scan and mail any photos you may have from the period 1981/82. A story like

I was first in carvoeiro in 1981/82 and it was there then, that was also before the one way system and monte carvoeiro. We used to go into the long bar when it was owned by Mel!! A lot of things have changed since then in carvoeiro im not sure if they all have been for the better. Iwould love to hear anyone else's comments or memories.

RE: idea for commercial area

I was in Carvoeiro with friends recently and was looking for somewhere where my wife and friend could spend a couple of hours getting pampered whilst I was playing golf. How about a health/beauty salon where anyone (not just women) could get a massage and various other relaxation/beauty treatments.

If anyone is recommending/selling you offshore companies now, its because they know they will make more money dissolving them after you realize how much money you are loosing. This is one form of tax evasion that will not pay off very much longer.

Almost every offshore haven has been put on a black list (If you own an offshore your trust company should have forwarded this to you) which will probably serve as a basis to clamp down on illegal monies all over the world.

Bear in mind, that the fisco is working together with finance departments all over Europe, credit card companies and banks to get some money flowing into the empty state vaults.

They are changing the laws and passing bills to close these loopholes, so be careful one of these loopholes does not turn into a noose around your neck.

Re Grilled sardines in the square. This was before 1988, on the terrace of the Barquinha, the old quiosque before the they changed it to restaurante O Barco, that time Piu did not exist either.
