Looks like we'll miss the partying since we're not arriving until lunchtime on the 24th but lots of bracing walks on the beach will be just as good! To the person asking about Christmas in Portugal : I can only go by what my Portuguese family and our friends do but by religion/choice we tend to celebrate Christmas on the 24th by opening our presents and then on the 25th we do the church and relatives thing. Usually we have our Christmas dinner just after midnight (going from the 24th to the 25th). We go to nightclubs and have a big party on the night of the 23rd but some still go out after they have eaten at about 2am!! The weather is not great - couldn't sunbathe but it is obviously better than in England!! Hope you have a lovely time and ignore the banter about the Portuguese men - they really have got Mediterranean blood so definitely have the good looks and charm!!

To the person who asked about the Jailhouse Bar : as far as I know, the bar will be open for Christmas and New Year as they have not said anything different. It was going to have some more work done on it (so the village gossip went) and be ready for Christmas. Don't know much more I'm afraid!! Also the person who has found some hunky men, please be careful as most of them have pregnant girlfriends at home of wives!! The Portuguese men love the summer as it brings lots of pretty English girls. (Speaking from experience as my boyfriend is Portuguese!)

Atenção. Os animais também precisam de cuidados, precisam de carinho. Junto à casa de gelados em Carvoeiro, existem vários gatinhos amorosos. Se gostam de animais não é preciso irem comprar ás lojas de animais ( onde os mesmos estão dias e dias fechados dentro de jaulas, horrivel!,one estão os direitos dos animais nas lojas? " quando se paga para um animal, é bonito..., é moda..., mas aos animais abandonados, dá-se um pontapé, ( são horriveis....). Quem saber se alguém com condições para fazer a castração das fémeas, por favor digam. Os animais são nossos amigos, e porque não mostrar aos nossos filhos isso mesmo, para que o nosso mundo passe a ser melhor.

Do you remember,on October 18th I placed a message on the board about missing my flights.Well good news ,we eventually got to the Algarve,and we had a great time.The Portugese have got to be some of the nicest people that i have ever met.Extremly helpful,laid back,and just brilliant with children. We are having a house in Carvoeiro, in the summer it is rented to a agency but in the wintertime we are staying in our house. The week around christmas is nice and the weather can be nice, not all the restaurants are open, but the one we like to visit is Rafaiol on the way back to Lagoa ( by car 1 minute drive from the square ). Ask the timetable in the touristoffice ,the busses are driving frequently. Jasper and Annemiek

We returned from Carvoiero two weeks ago and had an excellent holiday. It is a delightful place where we enjoyed excellent accommodation at the Monte Dourado apartments, good weather and excellent food and wine. The only disappointment was the fact that we never found the Praia Cavalho which we tried to visit by local bus and although the bus driver assured us he had dropped us at the nearest point we did not find it. The lady in the Tourist Information Centre was also unhelpful when asked for directions. Could you not provide a detailed map in the Tourist Office as we have already booked a return visit for next year. Your site is very good and we really enjoyed the ice cream and cones your sponsor makes!

Answer to "What is the best time of year to visit Carvoeiro?"...We went mid-October. No crowded beaches, restaurants or roads. Day-time temp about mid to late 70s with occasional 80 plus. Cool evenings. All attractions were easy to get in to with no queues. No need to book most restaurants. Calm atmosphere.

Leslie & Richard Bishop - Colina Azul is a small quiet development on the West side of town. If you are struck on Carvoeiro you can't go wrong staying at Colina Azul - the villas are spacious with private pools.
