I've stayed at Villa Laranja Do Sol which was part of Small World holidays owned by Sovereign. I Have very fond memories of the place. I was hoping to book up for next year. However Sovereign have dropped Small World from the holiday group.

Does anybody know whats happening with the villa for 2003? Which travel company will be taking over etc...

I'm booked for 7 weeks plus starting Mid February and wondering if Peninsula Hotel has any deals for multiple golf. This is my 12th visit and although I bring my clubs, I find that individual green fees are somewhat expensive compared to N.A. fees. we've just got back from 2 weeks of sun in Carvoeiro. Luckily it only rained during night or early morning and temp. was around 20-25 degrees. Didnt even need jacket on at night but who knows what the weather will do - seemingly they had a month of rain in September when usually it is dry. Good luck and enjoy yourself if you do go. http://www.carvoeiro.com/developments/carvoeiroclube/CClube.gif is one of the largest developments in Carvoeiro. The walking time into town depends on where your villa lies and can range from a 5 to 45 minute walk.

Other than that, it is a peaceful location with several very nice villas, a tennis club and fitness club, a couple of restaurants, shopping and more restaurants/bars in Monte Carvoiero on the way into town or in Sesmarias. Nearest beach is about 2 kms away.

In any case, I recommend you hire a car when in the Algarve as public transportation has thin coverage, long travel times and is not reliable.

We have booked with Direct Holidays, they were fine. The flight carrier was Airtours,in-flight meals and transfers were all included as were the services of a rep. No different to any other company, but I found the prices most agreeable. I would book with them again,without hesitation.Where are you intending to visit?

Recently returned from Carvoeiro - had an excellent two week break at the Colina Da Lapa self-catering apartments. Would recommend these apartments - they are like a semi-detached mini villa, great - no disturbance with lifts, doors banging or lots of noise. 2 bedroom apartment has lots of space inside, huge livingroom and dining room, huge kitchen with every mod-con ie washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, cooker, fridge freezer, coffe perculator etc not only that the apartment had an iron and hairdryer (for us ladies this is a necs). Bedrooms were really nice and spacious, plenty of cupboards and drawers, toilet downstairs -bathroom upstairs with 2 sinks, bidet, bath and shower - brilliant. The complex is excellent for all but especially for families - the pool was within walking distance of all apartments (a real save environment), kids club and at night there is family entertainment - it was obviously winding down when we were there but OK for those who had young kids and didn't want to go far. The only disadvantage was distance - coming from a small island that doesn't have a motorway didn't fancy driving. Taxi into the village is approx £3.60 each way - for us it wasn't too bad as there were two couples sharing - there is a courtesy bus that runs twice in the morning and collects about 4.30 from village. Lots of nice eating places but recommend Laternia and Casa Algervia (both just up from taxi rank) food was superb - most restaurant prices were much about the same. As a group of 4 having 2 starters, 4 main courses and approx 2 or 3 drinks each - paid an average of £10 per head - not bad.

Had great fun at Jailhouse, Round up Saloon and Mungos.

We would certainly go back - brilliant.

Oct 2002 - Carvoeiro is a pretty little town (not commercialised) with a relaxed atmosphere & plenty of great restaurants. We found the locals very friendly. Weather was great for this time of year. Plenty to do and larger towns a short car ride away.

Restaurants: recommend L'Orange & Le Bistroque. L'Orange - intimate, 5mins from town centre, need to book, 'specials' menu imaginative. Le Bistroque - pretty, on main road, popular, steaks that melt in your mouth. At both places a 3-course meal (good sized portions esp at Le Bistroque) inc 2 bottles of wine for 4 adults will cost approx 90 euros (£65). Out of this world food and 1st class service.

Average restaurants: O'Cantinho - food average but priced accordingly and Chef Antonios (pretty) - good food, large portions, and reasonably priced. Both on main road.

Restaurant to avoid: 'O'Boteco (a little out of town), extremely over-priced esp as food & service below average, limited choice.

The dish MUST have a digital transponder (not expensive) and be "matched" to the dish. You will need a least a 120cm dish to receive an acceptable quality of signal. You say you have a 1 metre dish but these are an eyesore and most villas are replacing now. It's possible the digital transponder may not work too well with the dish. Went through this excercise this year and the best route was a new dish etc using existing cable and a digibox (which you already have) Good luck.

I seem to remember some time ago a debate on the compatability of UK digiboxes with Portuguese systems. I have a box that I wish to use in my villa - this already has a 1 mtr dish, and cabling to the TV area. I have already have a free to air BBC card for C4, BBC 1 and 2. Is there anything else that I need? Is there danger that the dish will need realingment? Is this easy to do?

To the family travelling this thursday with a young family. Your Villa is probably in an area called Areious de Monious. I think thats how you spell it? This is where most of the villas are situated and is about a five/ten min walk to the shops restaurants etc. It is at the top of the hill on your left as you come from carvoeiro square. Zoo Marine - My daughter and Son in Law went there this week with their daughter and her friend, and twin son's. The admission fee was €15.21 for 4 Adults (Over 10 is adult rate) and €8.91 for the two boys. For the four children to swim with the Dolphins, it was a further €125.00 EACH, with no chance of a discount. A total of €566.06. I will let you calculate the conversion rate, if you are still interested.
