Has anyone ever been to Bubbi's? I heard it is good, but don't know anyone who has been there, they must have the biggest menu in Carvoeiro. What about Colombo's, Vale Verde, A Palmeira anyone been?

Has everyone forgotten the Mistral?? I must admit I didn't go this year, but last year we went a couple of times. Yes, they do serve chips, but also loads of side dishes which are really yummy like beans in palm oil mmmmmmmm, gratined cauliflower mmmmmm, and a selection of salads. The "ambiente" is great and so is the music. I think they have a covered bit which is heated now, try it I think you will like it

Re: Restaurants

Thank you for Primavera - we are looking forward to going. The description of Happys is perfect, the children love the profriteroles and of course the sweets at the end. We have been there many times and Libbe is the perfect host. Why do so many of the other restaurants have no description?

re: Nice restaurants which welcome children

Can't fault Primavera, excellent food, very clean, no chips and brilliant with our 5 year old daughter.

Wasn't too impressed with Fernando's - chipped plates, hair in the soup, didn't seem too keen on children.

A Rede (up the hill on the left) was OK, not too pricey, food pretty good (although plenty chips!). Gave our daughter free ice creams and us free port!

Tried a few more, but once we had tried Primavera, we went there most nights!

Re British Pubs

There are some really nice british pubs serving English food in.....BRITAIN!! For god sake what is the point of spending all that money going on holiday if you want to eat english food??? Eat Portuguese food, it all comes with chips anyway I am sure you will cope with that. Sorry to be a grouch but it really is pathetic.

would someone point out to Mr PERV Kalkbrenner that strip clubs and lap dancing are actually just another reminder to most of us that women are still being exploited the world over. Enough of this "kick back and relax" did you actually ask the women why they are doing it (to support their families) and how much they are paid (a pittance no doubt) Contrary to you comfortable male beliefs most women do not enjoy stripping in front of complete strangers however much they may pretend to. Women should be free to choose to work in whatever industry they choose , the sex industry included, but they deserved to have decent working conditions and a decent wage. I find it really sad that this sort of "entertainment" has reached carvoeiro. Maybe some direct action is in order?

In Carvoeiro we have a couple of great golfcourses: GRAMACHO; a twin-nine not too difficult but rather pleasantly playing course, PINTA; 18-holes, very demanding, with steep hills and slopes, better take a buggy here! Both of them part of Carvoeiro Golf (Pestana) on the west side of Carvoeiro. Also: VALE DO MILHO; 9-holes par 3, east side. Rather nice but off course not too difficult. Enjoy your game! We will have to beg to differ on Ermitage. La Reserve is a long way off on the road from Faro to Sta Barbara de Nexe. Mind you not been there for about 6 years (when my money ran out!) but it is the only one in the Relais guide. Dead good. Nearer to home is Casa Velha at Quinta do Lago - also v. nice but Bon Bon is nearer and cheaper!

Anyway the OTHER restaurant reviewer is pretty good but I rate Ermitage as THE best. Funny isn't it? Wot about La Reserve? Long way from Carvoeiro though.

The BEST near Carvoeiro is Bon Bon as I have told you all a hundred times.

RE: RESTAURANT GUIDES

Looking for some quality restaurants outside Carvoeiro??

CHRISSY's - Lagoa, surprisingly good food, 7/10

O CACTO - Odiaxere, nice and pleasant, 8/10

NO PATIO - Lagos, lovely patio-terrace, 8/10

AQUARELLE - Almancil, great chef, best lunch in Algarve, 2 courses only 1.250esc!, great value for money, 9/10

O LEAO DE PORCHES - Porches, good, nice place, 7/10

ERMITAGE - Almancil, waste of time AND a lot of money, food not by far the quality you would ecpect at such prices, arrogant service, 2/10.

Looking forward to reading more experiences. (Xenia? Florian? van Gogh? Casa Bitoque? Vila Joya? Sao Gabriel? Pequeno Mundo?)

15 contos at Bon Bon is worth every penny. In Carvoeiro you can easily get crap ranging from 5 contos for 2 to 20 contos for two but Bon Bon is always top quality

try it

To all Carvoeiro lovers:

Let's keep Carvoeiro the pretty, little place it is! Let's keep it different from places like PdR, Alb. etc...

Please wear your bathing-suits, bikini's, swimtrunks etc. at places they are designed for: like at the beach or at the pool. They do not belong in the streets, supermarkets, or any other place in town. Thank you for your cooperation.

Resident.

It usually pours with rain in November, it's the worst month for everything. As for gay bars, why don't you look them up on www.sapo.pt they have a wide selection.

Re: 15.000$ for two???

For that price my wife and I had an aperitive, bread & butter etc., 4 courses, 2 bottles of wine, coffee with brandy, all of outstanding quality! Off course it is possible to spend less. Main courses are about 2.500 - 3.000 esc. So, actually it is up to you, how much you spend.

RE: BON BON restaurante

You can find Bon Bon on the east of Carvoeiro, in the area called Sesmarias. Look for the water-tower there and follow the signs. (It is also near Carvoeiro Golf.) A nice dinner for two, off course also depending on the wine(s) you'll have, will set you back about 15.000. Absolutely worth every escudo! Go for it! Say hello to At & Pita.

The chinese farthest up on the left seems to come out high on all lists. I ate there twice last week and it was very good.

Bon Bon is super - a different league

I agree Ciclo in Lagos ia nice typical ffod at a very reasonable price. Very clean in there too. Try it for an ethnic eating experience

O Lotus is the best Portuguese for many a mile

For a REAL bifana you gotta go to Portimao municipal market and try out Alvaros. Simply the best. Mornings only of course - try it straigt from the disco at 0600 ish. GREEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAT

Re restaurante guide

Good steaks at "O Cantinho", up the hill on the right. Didn't like "chef Antónios", and can't understand all the people that say it's great The "Marisqueira", further up on the left, is O.K if you want a cheapish meal, but it's nothing special. For good portuguese food try "O Ciclo" in Lagoa, be carefull with the bread, olives and cheese at the begining, it puts the price up!! Oh and the "Lotus" next to the petrol station in Lagoa always used to be good, but expensive, haven't been there for a while so don't hold me to that!!!!!

Just returned from a regular jaunt to Rocha Brava and I must ask if I am the only person in the world who saw the blatantly obvious UFO (OVNI) above Carvoeiro on Monday 30/8/99 at 10pm. Great holiday, great food although crap service at Fernandos. Julios is still tops in my book. Anyone with UFO confirmation please contact me (and I WAS sober ! ! ! ) andymac80@hotmail.com

Mrs B.W, Carvoeiro is lovely at that time of the year, but the weather is never certain. It could rain all the time or it could be really warm and sunny, or you could get mixed weather. Feburary to March is fairly quiet, but nice, public trans. is O.K, and there are always the taxis. I think you should come.

Sept.4/1999

Live in Canada. Thinking of going to Algarve during winter, probably Habuary to March. What is the weather really like? I guess it's not as hot as Florida. Do you get much rain during that time.

We are two seniors. Where would be a good area, fairly quiet, but not absolutely dead, with public transportation, as we are not likely to have a car the whole time we are there.

Can anyone help?

From: Mrs. BW.

Hi from Canada. We will return to the Alvor area next March and want to know if we can rely upon bank machines for drawing money directly from our savings account. In the past we used them to draw from Visa. Thanks P.S. We love Carvoeiro too and visit the site often.

I returned from Carvoeiro about a week ago and I had a great time! One of the best restaurants to go to is Julio's, on the outskirts of the town. The food's a bit pricey but well worth it! Also, make sure you visit The Bote disco/bar (situated on the beach) on wednesday nights for an extraordinary foam party! And if anybody goes to the Round-up Saloon bar, the tequila slammers there are huge!

While we are over we are hoping to go and see a football match in Faro, Sp Farense v Sporting C.P. on the 12th of september, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what time the kick off will be and the easiest and cheapest way to get there. I will check the message board before we leave at about 1am tommorow morning GMT for any info.

Cheers in advance.
