Back home after another 2 great weeks in the village. The weather could have been a "Tad" better, but what the hell,a bad day on the "Algarve" is better than a good day in England. Congratulations to Michelle & Paul on their recent wedding, wishing you both a very long & very happy marriage. If I see either of you in "MuckySpoons" I'll get the wife to buy you a drink! Hope the last night of you're honeymoon in "HAPPY'S was not spoilt by "Wideawakes" awesome renditions of "She'll Be Comming Round The Mountain & I Am The Music Man" Everyone seemed to enjoy the singing, Indeed, some customers were almost moved to tears.Understandable really once you've heard "Widers" sing. many thanks to "Libbe & Sandra" for putting up with us again, and thanks also to the lovely "Eva" a much put upon waitress who alway's has a smile on her face. back again for the "New Year" Can't wait!!!! To Kev and Shirl. I know that you are reluctant to name and shame the Villa in question, but I really would appreciate your help. I August, we stayed in the Villa Helena in Sesmarias, booked through Sovereign. Shortly after we got there one of my sons cut his foot very badly on the join from the shallow end to the deeper end. I found it difficult to believe the rep when she said they had not had any complaints before because the tiles were very sharp. I asked my other son at home to post a message on this site to see if anyone else had stayed there and had a similar problem but only got the usual snide comments from the resident saddo who occasionally haunts this message board. So, if it was the Villa Helena would you help by letting me know? Thanks, Les Johnson

The fish 1/1 not 1/2 with chips and mushy peas is absolutely massive,is cooked to perfection and is better than any I have had on any of the British coast line!!!The manager Liebe is also an excellent host.The last comment was correct,even if you don't fancy a whale with chips and peas all the menu is cooked to perfection. We have not long since returned from our Honeymoon in Carvoeiro.We had a brilliant time as usual.I'am so pleased we never had any problems with 'our'Villa as I have been reading about other people's misfortune's,I'am sure they will enjoy more next time.I would just like to say if anybody has'nt tried Happy's yet then please do!!All the food is excellent but the jumbo fish & chips WOW!Might seem boring but was recomended to me and I was not dissapointed!!Anyway thanks again to everybody (MMG's) and posse(in laws)for all your efforts in helping to make such a wonderfull day and a brilliant Honeymoon,can't wait to get back!!!Luv Mr&Mrs T

Had a week at Colina Da Lapa. The kids clubs are great but the pool was cold as it's not heated. We found the slide & splash good fun for 12 euros for adults, under 4 free. Try Bernards in Ferogudo for a meal, and hire a car. Auto Jardim are very good and will deliver and pick up from the apartments. Also try Shoe World in Lagoa for great bargains especially for ECCO shoes. The local beach is sandy but not shallow so keep an eye on the kids.

Hello from Kev and Shirl! I guess I must set the record straight but to publicly "name and shame" is not the way to go. First let me say that The Villa Agency operates with the highest professional integrity and their properties are beyond reproach. To the person that thinks I'm "fussy"I don't think you would be happy to spend your hard earned on this villa, but some people have lower standards than others.Why should you see anything from the webmaster or owners they have both been contacted but that's my business. Trying tp be as cryptic as possible, the villa was in the Sesmarias area and amongst other things, the pool had a large crack running along the shallow end, ask the owner, this will ID the villa. Mike G, All gone a bit sour hasn't it? but we are not deterred and looking for a long week end in October at one of the hotels in Carvoeiro, keep you posted. Kev (Kev and Shirl)

I am 'the concerned owner'.

If you re read my post I am saying that no one has criticised The Villa Agency, only that earlier posts seeem to have interpreted it that way.

I put my property thru The Villa Agency as when I was on the other side of the fence, i.e a paying customer, I had always been impressed with the service and the Villas provided.

I am saying if there was a problem with my property, I would like to know.

However as I visit regularly and have an excellent manager, I would know of any problems and deal with them straight away. Indeed the agency themselves inspect regularly and as an owner I get regular customer feedback.

On another point completely. I intend to update a bathroom this winter, can anybody recommend a good showroom/supplier.

Someone asked about the new Miarachoro Praia Hotel, here is some information. The swimming pools are dirty, all my family got eye infections, there is nothing for children, the bar is like a breakfast bar on British rail and there are not enough tables or plates and cutlery for meals. Breakfast was like one big queue for everthing and it was all rubbish. I give it 0 stars

To the villa owner who seems a bit concerned, when was the last time YOU visited it to check the state of it and it's contents and surely if there was something wrong the management agency would get in touch. Hopefully it is ok but only you should know. Pay attention to it in future.

Wait until GO/Easyjet work out the schedules for next summer, my guess is that they will run at least two flights from Gatwick as well as Stansted. Meanwhile it's difficult to beat GO albeit Stansted and watch out for Sundays as there is no Stansted express running (coach instead!!) And also steer clear of Thursdays Saturdays and Sundays for the best price

They are scheduled flights out of Gatwick north terminal, and yet cheaper than most of the usual suspects ie Monarch, Air 2000, JMC etc. What is more.... from next year many of the above are charging for meals over and above the prices offered on the web which if you are booking for say six or more it makes a difference.

Monte Dourado - we have stayed in the upper level for the past 3 years, and although there is a hill climb, we would far rather do that than be in the lower level - where balconies overlook the pavement so it is not not very private - particularly if you are sitting out eating your breakfast. In the upper level you can approach from the other end of town so the hill climb is not so steep. Generally we feel the upper levels are in a far more pleasant position (despite the hill!) but that is just our opinion.

I have also stayed in Monte Dourado lower apartments and did not find traffic noise a problem, especially as we stayed in a duplex on the 3rd and 4th floor and you are well away from traffic and passer-by noise up there. Another advantage with this apartment is that the bedrooms are all on the 4th floor. The 4th floor in block 1 has no front doors (ie only the upstairs of duplex apartments) so once you go to bed you are not woken by people coming home late at night. There is also a childrens pool on the lower level, not just the big pool.

I am a fairly fit thirtysomething, but even walking up the hill to reception was an effort in the heat, and the cobbles are quite slippery. I wouldn't stay on the upper level for this reason.

The lower level is brilliant for being able to step out of the lift and onto the street, just a couple of minutes to the beach, shops, restaurants etc.

Hi, Mike G, This the first chance I have had to sit down and bash out a message Re our stay in Carvoeiro. We checked out every newly wed in Smilers on the first few days to intro ourselves but I guess our timing was amiss. Folks were beginning to think we were from Relate or similar, anyway I hope your daughter and her husband had a good time despite the weather. Our stay was mixed, with the villa booked from these very pages being a big let down( any one interested details on request} in fact we moved to the new hotel at the top of the hill mid week which more than made up for the poor villa. Sorry once again we missed your daughter, you go soon if I remember, have a good one. Kev & Shirl.

we stayed in Monte Dourado lower level apartments and did not find external noise a problem ie. traffic. the thing we noticed was that we could hear people outside in corridors banging doors shut but only mainly during late afternoon when most people on move. these apts are ideal if u just want to walk to everything inc. beach. upper level lovely but steep hill for youngsters though you do get used to it and childrens pool is better on upper level. main pool on lower level very deep straight after shallow end so feel upper level pools safer with young children

Gaye and Adrian, All inclusive are part of Carjet.com and if you go to Carjet.com and drill down to carjet and ignor the popups you will discover that the price is lower but without the insurance which is only there to cover your EXCESS. Carjet also say on the web that unless you are hiring a 4+4 type veicle, it's not worth it. Your exposure therefore is about £500 and no more (the excess).If you pre pay you wll also get 10% off. Lets face it, the 4+4s are a menace in a village like Carvoeiro and if it was up to me I would ban them and also encourage the local police to give tickets when they stick out in the road when parked. The road out of town is a classic for that problem and the sooner they go then the traffic will not be a problem. Sorry to prattle on but I do feel most of the "movement" problems around the village are cause by these large vehicles. having studied it from the top of Matabixo every lunchtime for the last two weeks it's obvicous. What say you Rene?

I can confim that Carvoeiro isnt within walking distance, its about 3 or 4 miles and there are some pretty dodge roads, with no pavements on the way.

The Colina Village is equal distance away (if not further).

Take it from me, you WILL need to hire a car to get the most from your holiday.

However, there is a complementry bus 2 or 3 times a day to the beach and town. Taxis are an option also, but might work out expensive. You could also take the organised trips to Zoo Marine (Great day out for all), water parks etc etc.

The shop at the resort only offers BASIC rations (bread, milk, butter) at ultra high prices. Best to visit the Intermarche to stock up. Again car needed.

Trust me, hire a car, even if its only for part of your stay, its well worth it. If you do then visit the Monchique and Lagos, they are lovely places.

One thing, if you hire a car make sure you take out the optional supercover insurance, it'll cost you about 4 or 5 quid a day but will probably save you about £500 if you as much as scratch the car.

A word on the Monte Dourado apartments - there are 2 levels. The upper level are in small groups set up on the hill (about 5 minutes walk from the centre) and in pleasant tree/shrub surrounds The lower level is on the main road in the centre of town in a block with a pool but no grounds.
