All pre recorded tapes purchased in the UK will work on your recorder/player in Portugal (or anywhere else in Europe come to that). I trust that now makes it very clear!

If the Casa Belvedere is by Boteca rest., then it is cliff top above Paraiso beach and a short walk to centre of town

Cheers Adrian from Cardiff - thanks for responding to my previous email - much appreciate the info. Can you confirm when you say the aparts are not within walking distance are they more than 1 mile? Where we live "the very far north of Britain" - we are used to walking approx 1 -2 miles for our entertainment obviously anything more than this we would consider taxi/motor. Thanks for confirming apartments and village is not same - could you confirm as to whether the appartments are situated near the colina village?

Lets face it we'll be happy whatever but being an ex Girl Guide I always like to be prepared!!!

A lot of the Monte Dourado apartments are owned privately, and are also advertised on the rentals section. We have a 3 bed apartment which is advertised on this site.

Monte dourado is all apartments with shared pools, there are no detatched villas with private pools on the dvelopment.

I would highly recommend the more central Carvoeiro for your holiday villa. As for horse riding Gill runs a riding school just outside Carvoeiro. She charges 30 euros per hour for a hack, and it is advisable to pop in to see her and book a couple of days in advance. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Carvoeiro this year, although we stayed just outside, I felt it would have been nice to have been able to stroll down into the village of an evening,we were just too far for that, though.

Hello. Hoping to visit Carvoeiro for the first time next year and have the choice of two lovely villas - one near Praia da Marinha and the other is much more central Carvoeiro. How 'developed' is Praia da Marinha - does it have shops/restaurants etc? Also does anyone have any advice on horseriding stables? We have two horse mad girls coming with us who would love to do some countryside/beach treks. Thank you Linda - my email address is lindadom4@yahoo.co.uk

Just returned from a great 2 week stay at the Villa Jodilsa. For those of you who wish to know what its like.....its a very very good villa with many positive points. We loved the pool. Just be careful if you use the side door when returning at night as you have to walk past 2 sets of steps which have no hand rails or lights to guide you.

With regard to the cost of swimming with dolphins at Zoomarine, the cost is not cheap(£89.00-125 euros)but it is a lot cheaper than you will pay in America. Having spoken to someone who has done it in both places, the Zoomarine experience is far superior

Re: Dolphins.

It is possible to swim with them. You have to go to Zoomarine and book and then come back a few days later to swim.

Be advised, they charge your weight in gold for this unique experience.

Gaye from Shetland.

We stayed at Colina de Lapa this year. It is not the same resort as Colina Village but has the same owner. The complex is brand new and therefore very well presented and 5 star with regard to quality. However, the complex is not within walking distance of the village and wil cost approx 5-6 euro each way in a taxi. There are a couple of shops and a cafe near by but best eateries are found some way from the complex (near town).

The pool isnt heated and therefore probably cold with all the rain thats fallen there recently. However, you can use the heated indoor pool at Colina Village which is a 10 mins drive away. I would strongly recommend you hire a car, otherwise you will be quite isolated.

Have a fun holiday and enjoy.

Adrian (Cardiff)

We stayed at Val De Rei this year and were very pleased with the villa and the area. Ideal if you hire a car and are willing to drive into Carvoeiro, we took a taxi on the nights that we both wanted to drink. In the afternoon whilst we sunbathed around the pool, you would have thought you were a million miles away from civilisation. Highly rcommended. We discovered that the further West you travelled, the colder it got, left Lagos one afternoon with the car temp at 25 celsius, by the time we arrived in Portimao it had risen to 27 celsius, finally arriving at carvoeiro it was wonderful 32 celsius, all in 15-20 minute journey. Can anyone tell me , therefore, whether my assumption is correct- the further Esat you travel, the warmer it gets? And would I benefit from travelling down as far as Tavira?

We did not come across any drug pushers in the square either when we were there, but, to be honest we were not looking for any,so maybe we were blind to them. Nowadays it is very rare to come across ANYWHERE that does not have pushers, even this country, or more so, this country.

Rocha Brava is a lovely development, but there is not a lot to do if you don't want to spend a lot of time by the pool. There is a small playground with a few swings etc, plus a cafe, restaurant and shop, but nothing else to do. You would really need to hire a car for trips to the water parks, Zoomarine etc. There is very little that you can walk to from Rocha Brava. What are you looking for?

To the Irish Family looking for accomodation next July. Have you considered two apartments. We stayed at Villas do Mar recently. Lovely development 3-400m from town square, quiet area with own pool. There are 10 2 bed units and some have a separate studio which sleep another two/three! Also we had friends that stayed at Casa Isafan which is a four bed villa near post office. It had a large pool and bathroom to each bedroom. Try villasdomar@hotmail.com for details

Reply to Chris from 13/09/02 ref. Doctors. We needed a doctor for our 4yr old whilst in Carvoeiro this summer and found the family medical centre very helpful. Up some steps above a restaurant on the 'out' road (one way system) from the main square. Tourist info. will give you directions. We had to pay for the consultation and also antibiotics that were needed. If you want to use the form E11 available from post offices I think you have to go to a recommended clinic. Hope this helps. P.S. Carvoeiro is a lovely place. We will be visiting again.

Got back from Carvoeiro 7th September after a great week. Evenings after Mungo's always ending with a great night in THE JAILHOUSE! Hi to Dave and Karen we had another great week (5th year running we have been there). If any of the lady golfers read this or know of them (they were staying in a villa near Vale de Milho 31 Aug - 14 Sept) my name is Tony and I met one of them in the Jailhouse on Friday 6th September. She is Scottish, with fair hair and glasses and I very foolishly have forgotten her name. If anyone remembers her please ask her to contact me by email at ABW@rmz.co.uk If Suzanne or any of the group that were staying in the villa up the road from the JAILHOUSE at the same time (they booked through Sovreign Holidays and were a group of singles) perhaps you could contact me, as I know your group got quite friendly with the group I'm talking about. Anyway anyone who spent time in the JAILHOUSE again this time, it was great and we'll see you all again next year if you are there. If Dave & Karen read this, Hi we had a great time and will see you next year. ps Sue sends her love to Joel. Tony Woodley

We had a fantastic holiday in Carvoeiro in August, The weather, area, etc. were great, not too busy - just Right. We were there with my husbands parents, they enjoyed it just as much as we did, we hired a car for a week and were able to travel around quite a lot, we enjoyed everywhere we visited except Portamao(very busy and dirty) my mum who actually lives in Algoz says that since the alterations in Portamao there have been many complaints that they have taken away the character of the place!!! The other place we didn’t like was Krazy World, definably needs some money spending there!!One place that we had a fantastic time was the festival at Lagoa(each year around mid August)it really was fantastic and you really felt that you were seeing something of the Portuguese culture.

We have seen several messages abort swimming with Dolphins, our daughters aged 13 and 8 experienced this, I can only say that it was absolutely fantastic, the cost is approximately £80.00 or 125 Euros but very defiantly worth it, we were told that they would have about thirty minutes swimming with the Dolphins, but it was nearer sixty minutes. We were there peak season and had pre booked as advised, but if you go and had not pre booked and couldn’t get on that day when you went back for your booking you were not charged the entrance fee, we did look at the website about the dolphins but found very limited information.

Finally as everyone else seems to enter their favorite restraunts, Happy's(our youngest daughter would of gone there every night if we had allowed her to) very friendly especially children friendly, Maximes, and Chief Antonios

Anyone going over enjoy your stay as much as we did.

The Shaw Family

Was looking at the world weather half asleep last night! It said Faro had massive rainfall during that day - more than any time before - is that right?!

As my sister is just up the road from Carvoeiro I wondered if the weather was bad all round. I told her the weather would be great - was I wrong??!!

Re Jack & Daniella. Thanks once again ! Please when you are in Carvoeiro, pop into the Carvoeiro Bar and Maximes Restaurant and let the owners know that Jack & Daniella are doing fine and getting ready for their journey home to England. These people saw in the dogs what we have seen and will be delighted with any news of them. Have a wonderful holiday. Best wishes !

Dress code on the golf courses is fairly relaxed and shorts and short socks are definitely permitted. However soft spikes are the norm on most courses and many such as Penina insist on them. If you have transport suggest you try the new course, Boa Vista (Boavista.com), just west of Lagos. Tom Gibson. (rt.gibson@virgin.net)

Can anyone advise the dress code on Carvoeiro golf courses? Are shorts ok or are long trousers the rule?

Kevin Re;Christmas in Carvoeiro, It can be a little bit quiet, but that's no bad thing is it? The weather can be quite warm during the day but I would suggest a light jacket for the evening .Some of the bars and restaurants are closed but that still leaves plenty of others. If you do go I'm sure you'll find lots to enjoy. Best wishes to you and all in Smilers,Mungo's,Mike's(yes, even you Dean),Rascals,Hemingways and all the others, Love and hopefully see you soon,Craig.

Hi ther we came home from carvoeiro about a week ago, and can not wait to go back there. The town square between June and September has a stage with live music every night, and people just dancing in the square-really sweet, and very holiday like.Great place for pre-teens to dance and have fun with there parents! The bars serve alcohol to anyone who looks sixteenish! my son and his mate (both 15) went off and enjoyed themselves without us lod foggie parents being in tow! and got served, no problem-my advice to any parent like me who's fairly easy-just don't give your kids enough money to get plastered, but just enough to buy a few drinks, then everyones happy!Definately check this place out, we are even thinking of giving up on the UK and going there to live, its that nice.

My wife myself and new baby (one month old) are hoping to be spending some time in the Carvoeiro area over the coming months. Can any one tell us of a good doctors or clinic for the baby check ups as I have heard that a clinic is close- by but don't know if we being British will be able to have ordinary access to it.

Many regards Chris

Hi Rene,

Just arrived home after spending a wonderful week in the area. Wish we had booked a fortnight with hindsight!! The village has a wonderful atmosphere, especially in the evening, however did not notice the drug-pushers in the square, where were they? (asking as I have 14 yr old son, who looks older.....and want to be aware for next time.) Had several meals out,all of them great---o'Tasco, O Patio, steak house, grand murlha chinese......only one that was a let down was (something like)...Xece Ze...on the left up the hill...will not go there again.Cannot really recall it's name. For anyone who enjoys riding Gill's horse centre is excellent, she was ever so friendly. Mountain bikers try the trek, starting from praia da rocha, you get taken up to the top of the monchique mountains, and ride all the way down...well worth 30 euros!

Cannot wait until next year,Carvoeiro here we come!!!

Re: Amerikaner in Deutschland.

Had a great time, the only problem for us was with a family of mixed age groups , the drug pushers in the square! I will admit that this is not a problem for the family with under 12th's, but everyone should be aware that if these morons called "Monkies" by the local police GNR attack any of your party they will get away with it! Sad but this really nice "village" is soon to be taken over by these idiots! Having said that, with that exeption everybody Portugese/British were very pleasant and I would recommend the village without reserve.

Hallo,

Möchte man so etwas entdecken, muß man weit ins Hinterland fahren.
