Hi My family and me are coming to carvoeiro next year for the 12th time as you can guess we absolutly love it there,we are staying in a vila called Dos Leoes and would love to hear from anyone who has stayed there, what the facilities are like etc. I read that Peter and Marion have left Mungos does that mean its closed down or has someone else taken it over? Cant wait to get back to carvoeiro and sample the lovley food,wine and great atmosphere that we always get there. I would recommend Happys,Casa Algarvia and a lovely restaurant up the hill past the market called Le Primiveria(hope i got the right spelling).Also a fun night is the Round Up with the BIG host who was a world and european heavyweight judo champ!!(cant think of his name,its going to bug me all day).. Re Euro 2004..... New Stadium is being built for the tournament as a joint venture by Faro and Loule.It can be seen next to the EN 125 and there are 4 large cranes there at the moment. It will be a 31000 seat stadium covered on each side and uncovered at each end. Within the same area they are building an Athletics track and other sporting and entertainment facilities. After 2004, 9000 of the seats will be relocated and placed around the other facilities.

Hi Nathan, We've just come back from Carvoeiro and a lot of the restaurants are very samey but if you want 'real portuguese' food then I suggest you get a taxi the short distance to Lagoa and go to Lotus (just beside the Galp service station at the main junction). It was recommended to us by a local and was by far the best meal of the holiday. Mitch's restaurant in Carvoeiro on the way out of town opposite the Irish bar had excellent decor and food although it is managed by Dutch and not Portuguese. Hemmingways is also a good bar with great beer. Hope that is of some help. Escondodinho (the hidden place)in Sesmarias is an experience. When we got there we were told that the only thing on the menu was bife de vaca (Steak) which came topped with a fried egg, but the chipped formica chairs and elderly waitress gave it a charm not often to be found anymore on the Algarve. hello peeps !!, good message board, just returned from carvoeiro spent two weeks in solferias apartments, very good but no air con !! went straight to intermarche and bought a fan which survived journey home in our suitcase. having two girls aged 8 and 9 spent a few evenings at the square listening to the singers on the stage, and admiring the two artists, (they must make a fortune !!). However I am very curious about the childrens home situated at the top of the hill, quite a number of the children come and dance in front of the stage and very good they are too !! at 11.30 pm they all run up the hill like something from the sound of music !! does anyone know about this home ? if anyone would like to chat about Carvoeiro e mail me at PAULENEKHAYA@AOL.COM

It depends on which 'local' company they use at Faro, we were lucky and picked car up at airport. They also use a couple of local car hire companies that are a 5 min transfer from airport. I wouldn't bother trying Brasserie Marina between Benagil and Marinhas. I arrived there at 9.15 with the wife. The outside area was 2/3 full and the inside about 1/3. The 'Maitre de' said "Sorry we are fully booked, some people have not arrived yet. Would you like a card so that a resevation can be made next time?"

The offer was declined. There was no next time. So whilst the food may be sublime, don't try this one.

What's the weather like in Carvoeiro.I only understand very hot(unable to stand it), hot (LOVERLY),warm enough(Like a hot summer's day at home) or cold!!!!(winter at home)!!!!!!!!!! Re 2004, there is a stadium at Loule (possibly the one you see on the left going towards Faro) that is being used. No idea on Rentals yet, perhaps someone else could help. Saying that, a couple of mates of mine have made tentitive enquiries about our villa for the Euro champs. Don't think their wives were to impressed though when they rumbled it!

Re car hire.

Recently came back from holiday in carvoeiro having hired a car for two weeks with Avis. Would definitely advise against hiring with them! We were given a quote in the UK and on arrival didn't get the car we requested, got hit with extra insurance we didn't want and they got out of giving us the full BA Exec discount! Still fighting it and they're not very helpful!

Re the query about supermarkets in / around Carvoeiro. The largest which stocks virtually everything (including essentials such as wine & beer) is Intermarche which is just outside Carvoeiro on the road to Lagoa. Plenty of parking - opens about 08.00 hrs. There are also plenty of smaller 'supermarkets' in the village. Regards - 'The Pembroke 4'

Re Jack & Daniella. We have just spoken with Linda this morning. Jack is having his last injection for the heartworm on Sep 14th. They will then start his treatment for sandfly. The Rabies injection was given mid July and the first test taken mid August, so we have to wait 30 days til mid September to have it confirmed they are both clear. Once that happens it is 6 months and counting till they fly home.

Linda says they are doing really well, never leave each others sides as I am sure you will remember.

Linda will be delighted with the contribution you have made. At present she has 160 dogs to care for so any contribution will be well used.

We will keep you updated on their progress. Thanks once again and very best wishes.

Re car hire, try www.carjet.com have used twice this year and they use Budget rent a car at Faro. Much cheaper than holiday autos especially with the 10% off if you book before 31st August. Also www.amoita.com also very good.

We have used Holiday Autos for the last few years and had no problems. This year we booked early and obtained a basic car for £10 a day fully inclusive, their current advert quotes £14 a day. Have just received the voucher and they are using National this year.

The only problem I have had in the past is with Europcar, we had a long wait to collect and return the car.

Hi, Have read many negative comments re car hire..can anyone advise of decent cars at reasonable rates available for hire ...to be picked up at Faro airport. What sort of rates are charged?
