We shop in a german biological farm close to Silves (16 km. from Carvoeiro); vegetables, chicken, wine, fruit-juice, uht milk, dried beans etc. Otherwise I've seen soya milk in local supermarkets. The Algarve is not yet very well supplied with biological products, but you'll get the essentials.

If I do remember rightly it is open till 9.00pm through the week ...I wasn't up early enough to know what time it opens - but it's early!

The other smaller supermarkets in town usually open a little later till about 9.30 but I did find a couple open as late as 10.00pm...suppose it depends if it's worthwhile their staying open or not!

The only reason I am going to the Praia de Rocha is so I can visit Carvoeiro :-) Believe it or not there are more Irish pubs in Europe outside of Ireland than there are inside. Not sure what entitles a pub to call itself Irish, they are generally not owned by Irish, I guess its if they sell Guinness.

BTW WEBMASTER, excellent Web site. One question though re. the Web cam why has that truck been stuck in the middle of the road for the last 2 weeks :-)

Re - Young at Heart / Bars with Atmosphere

Try Round up or Mungo's bar til 10.30, then a quick drink at Imprevisto bar and then upto The Jailhouse for about 11.30pm for more Live and quiz's. After the Jailhouse (closes 2.30) try Oficina, Absoluto Bar or Zecca's which are open until 4am. Mitch's is also worth a visit on route to Absoluto.....

What's happened to the webcam? Have missed my daily viewing from work. I'm arriving Carvoeiro Sept 9th for a week. Is there anything special happening that week? Bringing our friends for their first visit here. Where's a good bar/restaurant for young at heart but middle aged in reality. We like a good party atmosphere. I know carvoeiro, but last time I came we had family with us so the needs were different. hi, i just got back from Carvoeiro. The best bar for Kareoke was jokers. i also recommend the Jailhouse, Zecca's, Absolutlo, for teenagers. I went to slide and splash but it was so busy even at 5 o'clock-so be prepared! I also recommend the Jumbolino for a laugh! Emma

Taxi to The Big One:- Fare will be approx 5000 esc - why not try slide and splash at Lagoa which will be approx 3500 esc - or there is a free bus from Rocha - speak to the tourist information. Hotel Almansor - Hotel is great- good quality food and facilities. GYM Try the Gym at the Club Carvoeiro - it is open to non members but I am not sure of the cost.....

A zoo had acquired a very rare species of gorilla. Within a few weeks the gorilla, a female, became very excited and horny, and difficult to handle. Upon examination, the zoo veterinarian determined the problem: she was in heat. What to do? There was no male of this species available.

While reflecting on their problem, the zoo administrators noticed Mike, an employee responsible for cleaning the animals' cages. Now Mike, it was rumoured, possessed ample ability to satisfy any female,and he wasn't very bright. So the zoo administrators thought they might have a solution. Perhaps they could entice Mike to satisfy the female gorilla. So he was approached with a proposition: would he be willing to 'service' the gorilla-for five hundred pounds? My husband and I just came back from Carvoeiro last week. We stayed at the Hotel Almansor. It was very beautiful. We enjoyed all the beaches and all the wonderful restaurants. Some of our favourites were, O Rafiol and Vela Lanterna. They served awsome fish dishes especially they salmon and shrimp. I would recommend anyone to go visit the Algarve and stay at Carvoeiro.

Thr Jailhouse bar up by the postoffice has great live music and is open until late (after 1.00 a.m)starring Bobby Stardust and a great couple singing and playing guitar. The Roundup bar also has live music starring Irish Dave. both are very good nights so suggest you try them both and judge for yourself, Have a good holiday.

Visited Aldeia da Chamines, a somewhat dated complex which some locals say needs pulling down. Watch your feet in the pool, my Kids and half the people in the pool cut their feet on cracked tiles. The walk down to tha main road is deadly with Drivers treating it like a rally track and playing chicken......slow down folks tourists won't return if they have been knocked down.

Totally reliable, friendly & helpful & will greet you at Faro Arrivals BUT the telephone number shown in the Goolies reply is incorrect. To telephone V&J from UK dial 00 351 91 788 2683. To telephone V&J in Portugal drop the 00 351. I have arranged taxis with them many times, both for myself & for fiends & guests. The best way to arrange for a collection from Faro is to send them a fax on 00 351 282 356521 quoting your names, flight no, dates times etc (V&J will automatically check Flight arrival times with Faro to ensure they are not delayed as well as you!!) They use a Mercedes Vito & can accommmodate 7 people. They are marginally less expensive than airport taxis. Good luck & have a great time. Mr Andrew, the man with the bicycle!

Ruis if you like seafood and don't mind a biggish bill; if you like English try Susies just over the bridge in Silves and turn left for 100 metres; Teodosios the famous chicken piri piri at Guia (left at the new lights from the Lagoa direction) but order plenty as the chicken portions are small; Chrissys in Lagoa for a good drop of Belgian nouvelle; similarly O Lećo at Porches; Rouxinol on the way to Monchique; Cafe Ciclo in Lagoa (good and cheap) Buster Blood Vessel
