There are a few small supermarkets dotted around Carvoeiro, but the biggest one 'Intermarche' is on the road from Lagoa to Carvoeiro(on your right.

This a BIG hypermaket about the size of a football pitch, and you can just about get anything you like from there (cheaper too!). Don't forget a 200 escudos coin for the shopping trolley deposit!

Don't worry about finding it - you can't exactly miss it on the way in to Carvoeiro from Lagoa!

I would just like to say hello to everyone who is visiting Carvoeiro this year. My name is Amy and I am the First Choice Childrens Rep at Colina Village. Sharon and I run clubs for the ages 3-11. Frances is the Rep at Colina, Jim is the Rep at Rocha Brava and Tony and Zoe are running the Small World holiday this year and Andrea and Donna are the Sovereign Reps. Colina Village is a 20 - 25 min walk away to the centre of Carvoeiro. 700esc in a taxi. We have plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. We do not have any long streches of beach, but we have many smalls coves. There is one night club called 'Bote', which is alright and there is a foam party every Wednesday. Carvoeiro is inbetween Praia de Rocha and Albuferia it's about 30min each way in a car, 3000esc to Praia de Rocha and about 4000esc to Albuferia.

Dear Mr Resident, I think you should have a few Portuguese lessons then maybe you could understand national news instead of sky!!!! Yes, there was a problem with sewage, but after Sic, TVI and RTP and O Correio De Manha reported the problem it was sorted out, hence the square being dug up in the middle of summer. The two guilty parties were A Aida (the beach bar on the left as you look at the beach) and A Barca ( on the left hand of the square). A few years ago they were forced to build washrooms for customers, instead of connecting every thing up to the main drains they took a "cheaper" shot cut and just ran the pipes into the old tunnel, So for your information, YES, there WAS a problem, but not now. Just come back from a great familly holiday in Carvoerio, had a wonderful time in this very friendly small town which has plenty of life but not alot of noise. Beaches are great. No where have I seen it mentioned about the live music in the square, different every night. All tastes catered for. We would recommend Carvoerio to every one young, old or in between.

A restaurant recommendation : The California is an excellent restaurant that deserves to be tried. 200 mtrs up the hill from the Taxi rank, on the left. We believe it is under new ownership. The food primarily chicken, cooked many difrent ways, & duck is of a quality that is hard to find and at a very reasonable price (from 1000 escudos)+ you get vegetables. Webb familly

The one that posted this message either has not got a clou what he is talking about or is plain stupid. I can assure you there is no such thing on any of the Carvoeiro beaches. They are clean and the sea-water is top quality.

So where does this story come from? I suppose one is confusing it with a canal/river that is flowing from north under a part of the village. Most of the year it is dry, but in times of heavy rain (YES, it happens) water is carried out to the sea through this canal, and only released by an underground pipe-line far from any beaches.

So, no worries, but....who would wanna go to Torremolinos volounterely anyhow????

Aldeia da Chamines; Stayed there last week,also Bloco B, toilet didn't work, which was very good for John as he got an upset stomach and made a right mess after Portugese night, not to be missed! Safari jeep trip with Viktor(I think he fancied me although mum said he was twice my age) was sooper and later on I got a ride (on bike that is )with Portugese waiter he was a real gent unfortunately though and got me back to Chamines for 5am he took me to a bike rally in Faro and got back in 15 mins, not bad considering its 37 miles. Almeia da Chamines;We have just returned from Carvoeiro having stayed in Bloco B in Chamines. Accommodation was spacious but dated and basic in two or three storey blocks with about 16 apartments in each. There is a small pool and bar unhelpful reception. It is situated about 15 minutes walk uphill from the Square. Some of the apartments have been purchased and our block there was a helpful "Brummie" on ground floor who was a useful contact.

Re Bars - If you like live music and don't mind staying out late (the music does not start until 10.30ish til 2am) try the Jailhouse (near post office / See page on this web site)- it can get a bit warm but the new guitarist is amazing playing tracks by groups such as Status Quo, Eagles, Beatles, Elton John and Gary Moore. Try The Carvoeiro bar (up Restaurant hill) or Imprevisto bar for a quiet drink with good measures (snacks are good at Imprevisto). Rascals Bar(up by ice cream shop) do some great lunchtime/early evening snacks/meals (Club Sandwich/Lasagne etc)with a good view of the beach and the toilets are spot less. Roundup bar is OK for a quick drink but avoid the take away food.

Enjoy your holiday - the above 'review' of the bars is my opinion - you should make your own by trying all the bars yourselves and please give your thoughts on the message board.

PS -For Pizza & Pasta the best is 'Forno do Frazer' which is also by the post office - all the pasta and pizza's are homemade.

Re:Re bars: I don't agree with you, satellite t.v, draught beer, English Breakfast sums up Sully's, Smiler's and most of the English owned bars, all right if you like that! Rudolf Valentino is closed and the Long Bar doesn't exist anymore (shows how long you haven't been here). We go into the Safari (good for cocktails and a laugh) Improvisto (nice to sit and watch the traffic go by!!) and Computas (under the post office, good to send email instead of postcards!!!) We also liked the Lanternas Velhas resturante I had a chicken kebab with satay sauce mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I've made my booking today to come back to Carvoeiro with our friends (we're 2 couples) in September (9-16th! This time no kids (yipee!!)- all grown up now so we will be hitting the village at the sad old ages of mid 40's. Where's the best spots for us old ones in years but 19 in spirit! Tinted car windows are illegal in Portugal unless you bring in a vehicle already with them. Car expert - Carvoeiro

A good tip is to wear tinted glasses and then you will think that the windows are tinted! Top Tipster - Carvoeiro

Jackie - taxi from Faro is about £25 each way. As for supermarkets, there is Intermache (large one) on the road to Lagoa or smaller one's in the village. Of the smaller one's D'Ana on the one way system out of the village is good.

Just come back from Carvoeiro - great place with excellent restaurants. Recommend Ele and Ela with the best Piri Piri on the Algarve! If you want an omelette, ask for a crepe at Rustica which is next to the Bon Bon restaurant in Ses - that is if you are unlucky enough to find it open! Visit Vitor's coffee bar (near Mungoes) Pastelaria Sol & Mar and try his fish cakes - say Elvis says hello!

Beware, Carvoeiro beach has an open sewer running sraight into the sea. Let's not swim in shit, boycot the beach until they do something about it. They say it's from clandestine houses that have been built with drains have been hooked up to the old system. For all those lucky people about to holiday in Carvoeiro this summer... we have just returned. We stayed at Vila Nova (for the second time) and once again it was of a very high standard. Carvoeiro to Albufiuera is about a 20-25 minute drive down the N125 and a taxi will be about a tenner there and a tenner back if I remember rightly...can't really say because I'd had too much Super Bock last year! Maybe one of the residents can confirm the price. The taxi rank in Carvoeiro is just at the bottom of the hill on the main street, on the right coming down the hill from the East. In Albufiuera there used to be a taxi rank just off the beach on the 1st street that runs parallel to the beach, but there are others that are easy to find!

On my seconds visit to Carvoeiro with my wife and two kids of 3 and 8 we had the best holiday ever. Villa Nova is first class for accomodation, food, fun and the kids loved it. Pinta Golf is excellant value for money, £48.00 for 2 players including a buggy on one of Europes premier courses! The choice of restaraunts is outstanding, the beaches are second to none in Europe. The only downside is that arse at Mongos who does the quiz on a Monday.How annoying! He looks like a failed '80's pop star with the most nerve itching voice I've ever heared. He's about as funny as A.I.D.S. He's the one that put the Mong into Mongos!

attn. residents: We are looking for good homes for 6 puppies that were 'delivered' in our garden by a very friendly stray dog. They are 1 week old now, there is 2 brown, 2 black and 2 black-and-white ones. We estimate the will grow out 'medium size'. Already inspected by the vet, all in good health.

Oh Well Keegan it was a farce,
The English team was like my arse...
No chance of winning a cup,
and better off covered up!

The weather here is cold and fog,
I've heard Keegan has got rid of his dog.
