re hole in the wall cash machines. We were in carvoeiro in May this year. We were charged by coop visa, about GBP 2.50 per 100 euros and 3.00 for 200 euros. It therefore works out cheaper to get large amounts less frequently. Vicky

Just returned from staying just outside Carvoeiro for 2 weeks at Casa Virginia. Thanks to the lovely people of Julios restaurant for excellent food and frindly service. Both female staff are so friendly, one older - poor woman has to work all day to look after her 2 children, the other very young and typically a very sexy lady indeed. Im sure our 11month baby boy really did fancy her for all the attention he got from both of you. thanks for making our holiday even more enjoyable - anybody know if Julios Restaurant have a website?

Just returned from our hols staying at Casa Rustica,location excellent - favourite restaurants Via Italia & Oasis although would have liked to have done more research on the subject! Used UK Car hire (autocerro) which was fine.. The directions on the website from airport to carvoeiro are excellent. Everything was all we expected for a lovely holiday and a lot was due to knowing our way around from this website..... Susie

It would be really down to your own preferences. To the Murray family - we got back from Colina da Lapa today. We enjoyed it immensley. If you want any more specific information please email me while the memories are fresh. Our two boys (3 and 5) were quite happy watching kids TV in German. The care in the kids club was fine, but my two were'nt over enthralled - once they had made some friends they were just as happy playing with them and only needed minimal supervision. The kids club runs at different times on different days (and the different age groups are'nt always on at the same time) but they did do a lot of different things so over the course of a week there is almost certain to be something your kids will enjoy. The evening entertainment is also mainly aimed at the kids.

To those self catering - don't worry about it!!

There are plenty of small supermarkets in Carvoeiro where you can get all you want. We shop most days as we like the walk and fresh items are always better on the day. (If your children are old enough to go to the shops alone they will love to go for you while you sit in the sun!)It also means you don't have to think in advance what you want each day.

The hypermarket is open every day but we rarely used it. And remember, eating out is not expensive, only if you wish it to be.

To the Murray Family, There is no video players in the rooms but there is sky TV. The only problem is 70% of the programs are in German not English,Which I dont understand because the site is just cosmos English holidays. The childrens club is running and thats ok.Not alot to do at night time for the adults but the site itself is excellent. A hired car is a must. If I was going again I would take a credit card and cash thers plenty of cash machines in carvoeiro. Travellers cheques are a rip off.

Re: Motorway

The motorway is finished till Alcantarilha, 500 meters before "the Big One" waterparc, there you get on the EN125 (2 lane), appr. 10 min. to Lagoa where you turn left to Carvoeiro. The next part of motorway (Alcantarilha>Portimao) will be opened spring 2003. The train in Carvoeiro is more like a trainshaped bus, driving on the road and making it's round through the village and stopping at a few places...like a bus. Don't know the price yet.

We are staying at Colina Da Lapa in July. It may seem an odd question but are there video players/recorders in the apartments? (we have 3 children, one a 2 year old and thought if we can bring along a couple of videos it will keep them occupied in the apartments). Is the Cosmos Childrens Club operating? Also is it best to take cash, travellers cheques or use cashcard at machines? Plus we would like to hear from anyone who has stayed at Colina Da Lapa this year.

I just thought I should point out that the artical by Liz Hendley seems to be out of date.

After returning from my holiday in Sesmarias I noted that all the traditional sardine "restaurants" have been removed by the redevelopment of the harbour front and are no more.

Such a shame yet another thing has been spoilt.

What bugs me more than the amount of advertising on the message board, is the fact that they do it for free, when the establishments could very well sponsor the webpage and help the webmaster finance it´s continued development.

That way you would get a link to your own page on carvoeiro.com with pictures and all and the people who are actually interested can consult your pages to see what you have to offer (big screen, small screen, no screen, etc) It won´t make everybody happy, but it´s a start. René

I feel there is a difference between a villa/apartment owner informing the readers, who may be looking for late accomodation, of availability and a Bar owner pretending to be a user, in and attempt to promote the facility. This is a service and may save the potential visitor to Carvoeiro, making numerous phone calls! We do though need some direction from the host on this subject.

So it's OK for people to blatantly advertise villas and apartments unsolicited, but allegedly Dean mentions the bar he works in as a response to someone asking where they can watch the football, and he gets slated.
