So sad, we're back home after two weeks in Carv. our first visit here and can't wait to
come back. We are booked for Sao Rafael later on this year and have tried to change our
booking with the villa co. to Carv. but they have no vacancies so we have to go there or
lose our deposit. Unfortunately we're not flush enough to do that. So we'll have to wait
till next year. Mitch's, best restaurant followed closely by Maximes and Castelo
overlooking the bay. Wot a brill indian reataurant O'India is, didn't expect that here. We
just can't wait to return, try the lottery again tonight.

Re Ratten furniture, water and Solferias!!!
If you go to Portimão, along the shopping street there is a road turnig off (I'm not
sure which one) and down that road on the right hand side is a small shop with lots of
things you might be looking for. I have a small child and have always found that the tap
water is fine for mixing with milk, as long as you boil it for about 5 mins., becareful
not to give your baby mineral water as it is different to spring water and the minerals
are bad for the babies. Solferias is a nice aparthotel, out of Carvoeiro so no noise!! But
it is up a VERY long hill, O.K to walk down, but up I think you'll need a taxi!

To the person who was asking about Solferias. It's a nice apart hotel with a nice
swimming pool at the back. About 7 minutes walk from the centre.
It's in a quiet area of Carvoeiro but not far from the centre.
Have a look at the carvoeiro website, they might have pictures of Solferias on it.

We have just returned from carvoeiro had a great time but 10 days just was not long
enough. We stayed at the Casa Rustica the apartment was fantastic with views of the beach
and square. The taxi we booked was Paulo Lapta our flight was delayed but they at the
airport waiting for us.

To Paul H, Many thanks for the info you posted, it's probably saved us a lot of grief
as we weren't going to take much milk/food with us either. Fortunately my wife had already
phoned JMC, who we're flying with, and got us listed as Scuba Divers - they didn't give us
a weight limit, just said take what gear you need, so hopefully we won't get hit for the
baggage.

I for one am very glad this website exists and brightens up my (wet,cloudy,
grey!!!)day! My family and friends all love Carvoeiro and visit as often as cheap air
fares allow - hope they continue now that Easyjet have taken over Go!

Just got back from carvoeiro (18th May) My son, who is 11 months and a very good eater
and drinker, did not have any problems with any of the bottled water from the supermarkets
- However, we took only one container of SMA and limited supplies of Heinz food jars as we
thought that baby food is of a similar nature over there! This was not true, the milupa 2
(follow on milk) settles in the bottle and my son would not drink it at all, we ended up
resorting to cows milk which he did seem to accept more than the formulae. Also he would
only eat only a few of the jarred food that the supermarkets supply!! I would also like to
point out that the UK jarred food is thicker and chunkier than the equivalent in Portugal!
Next time we will take the baggage hit and take enough SMA and food to last the holiday!

Now how likely is it that an English speaking person living in Portugal would rent a villa
in Carvoeiro? Or rather… how likely is it that a dubious Website would promote
themselves for free through this message board? I can't give you the answers but I can
supply some tools that might help you before trusting anyone blindly. I might add that
I've filtered dozens of similar "recommendations" from the same IP address
before using it as an example.
Please note that this Web site is not in a dot.com frenzy; sponsor money is scarce,
nevertheless service has been provided since May 1998, actually the first message on the
board is from July 27th 1998. Web cams at that moment were not exactly a novelty but very
few Web sites in the world sported a Weather station, which I had to import from USA. And
the service will continue as long as you care to participate! Sponsors or not!
Amazingly I've never received any complaints from customers having rented a villa or an

Re IP Address.
Personally I think that the IP addresses should not be disclosed. There are some gits
around who can use that kind of information to do some serious damage. I feel that with
this kind of affluence a forum would probably be in order. That way people would have to
register and log in and the moderator could ban anyone who misbehaves (that, the IP would
be useful for). Plus the replying would also be easier.

Unfair critical comments! It is time someone commented about certain individuals who
continually make unnecessary comments about bars, restaurants or accomodation. This is
particularly the case with 217.129.154.130. who regularly makes 'cynical' remarks! Make a
fair point by all means but stop running down excellent fine carvoeiro businesses. I refer

Look, the World Cup comes around once every four years, it's the worlds biggest
sporting tournament and I for one intend watching some of the games and watching them
while sober. You seem to want to tar every English football supporter with the same brush.
We are not all hooligans despite what the gutter press would have you believe ! You'd
better lighten up the English, Portugese, German, French, Swedish etc will probably all be

How come the main concern of English people going on holiday is Football? More then
that even watching Football in english pubs in Portugal? Thats absurd. The only difference
between England and the Algarve turns out to be the weather. Its allready to packed with
foreign bars, and foreign drunk people going nuts after their soccer sessions. Carvoeiro
is not an exception. Their are missing the real pleasure of going to a foreign country on
holiday, its besides the good weather to get to know a different place with different
people, habits, foods etc. Besides a lack of politness and behaviour its also strange to
pay so much money just to watch soccer in a pub more south, to drink the english beer
burned like a lobster and to see only english people. But thats their choice. Its just a
pitty that the south of Portugal has changed its face due to that and that it became more
english than some parts of GB. One day Portugal will regret that, to have traded a couple
of their treasures for some cheap foreign influences.

Friends arrived back from Algarve in the last few days and said the weather was awful.
They even had to light a fire!! Only one hot day!
Without wishing to doubt them - is this right?! Also does the webcam info ever say it's
been raining? I've never seen that it says it has or maybe I'm not looking on the wet
days!
Be glad if someone out there could tell me - I told them it would be lovely weather,
well it is when I'm there!!

If you want some fun the Jail House is a great venue. Concerning England games 2 and 7
June. There is sky in several bars, smilers, sullys may be the jail house but games are
10.30/12.30 so you need a bar open in the day! See you there to cheer on England!

Just returned from a holiday in Carvoeiro.
Had a great time.However:
It was our third visit to the Algarve, our last being in 1998. On this visit we couldnt
help but notice the amount of graffit. Im sure it wasnt there in 1998. Nearly every
available space was covered in spray paint nonsense. Its such a pity because it puts a
scar on an otherwise great part of the world.
Also, while there we paid Zoomarine a visit. great day out and real value for money.
The only downer being that our hire car was broken into in the car park. They damaged the
lock but didnt steel anything because there was nothing in the car to steel?
Anyway, sort out the vandalism or the Algarve will soon be a turn off!

Just got back from our hols and spent a fantastic night at the new bar in Monte
Carvoeiro. It has only recently opened and has no real name apart from being a little pub
close to where the old taverna was located. Would recommend it highly and the bar tenders
attempts at twirling his bottles are well worth the visit just to see how many times he
drops them !! Susan and Andrew Gould

Does anybody know a rock-pub in the area of Carvoeiro? I visit Carvoeiro with some
friends in September and it would be nice to hear good music while drinking beer.
