Re - Car Hire

There are several car hire places in Carvoeiro - Auto Jardim, Auto Cerro, etc. We usually organise car hire from the UK before we go so I don't know if it is expensive to organise once you are there.

Taxis sit in the square, and there is also a telephone for taxis - so they are easy to find, but I have never used them personally so can't help with prices.

The beach in Carvoeiro is just off the village square - it depends on where you are staying as to how far it will be. Some of the villas and apartments are 5-10 minutes drive from the centre of the village. There are also many other beaches, but a car would be necessary to visit them.

Sagres beer. They used to sell it at Majestic Wine Warehouses that are dotted around the UK. It was no where near as cheap as the supermarkets in Portugal. they also sell it at Nando's Piri-Piri outlets which are opening up around London and the South East. The chicken piri-piri in these places is also excellent, which surprised me a bit.

Anyone know why SuperBock and Sagres are not available in the UK? I have found these beers to be extremely tasty and I am thinking of downing an ice cold Superbock (it's just like Stella Artois) when I come over in August! To the person looking for road atlas and how to get from Faro to Carvoeiro. Most of the sites I've come don't have detailed enough maps to really navigate by and the ones that do don't show the new IP1 motorway which links Faro to just past Albufuiera.

If you are traveling from Faro to Carvoeiro, I really recommend that you use this IP1 motorway rather than the N125. It will reduce your journey time and is probably less hazourdous.

When you come out of the airport and after you have taken the N125 towards Almancil, you will see signs for the IP1 towards Portimao. Take the motorway and stay on it till it ends(about 25-30mins) just past Albufuiera, you will then be back on the N125 headed towards Portimao. When you get to Lagoa on the N125 you will hit a 'roundabout' just on the outskirts of the town - take a left here signposted towards Carvoeiro and follow the almost immediate left hand fork in the road towards Carvoeiro. The town is then straight down that road for a couple of miles. Watch out for the one way system as you come into Carvoeiro. Hope this makes sense, then you should not really need a map to get there. Freemaps are available for Carvoeiro and other areas when you get there.

Don't forget the sunblock, it's VERY, VERY, VERY hot here at the moment, and there is nothing worse than seeing red people wandering about. PARENTS, get a hat on those babies and kids, smother them in a HIGH factor sun cream, LOOK AFTER YOUR KIDS.

Baby Tom, had alook around the big supermarket and didn't find any organic baby food, you shouldn't drink bottled water, it's not good for babies. The tap water is fine as long as it's boiled for a least five mins. believe me I know. Car seats can be rented with the cars, it is compulsary to use one, big fines if you get caught without one, but if your mummy and daddy love you they'd make you use one even if it wasn't compulsary!!

Hello! My name is Tom and I am seven months old. I am coming to Carvoeiro on the 3rd of June for a week. I have never been abroad before and my mummy and daddy are a little worried over a few things. Can anyone help them to chill a little by helping them. Can they buy organic baby food without filling a suitcase before they come (yuppies!)? Can they buy bottled mineral water low in sodium (or boil tap water like everyone else does)? Are childs car seats easy to rent from the car hire shops? Re: ANTS It is really a case of leaving everything clean, no bits of food on work surfaces ect. The ant powder is very good, but it has to be where they get into the house, the spray just blows them away. I read somewhere that little balls of cotton wool soaked in bleach placed in the corners keeps them away, but I haven't tried that one!!

We are coming to stay at the Rocha Brava apartments - the advert within this site suggests its 3km from Carvoeiro but our brochure suggests the town is only 600m away - is our brochure wrong !?!? Is there a good beach any closer than this - if so how far please.

last year we were driving down a track near to Praia da Marinha looking for a quiet cove when we came across a very overgrown, deserted car park on the cliffs. It had lights erected but had obviously not been used for years. There was a small beach below but with difficult access. Can anyone tell me why this car park was made but not used now ?

Just returned from Monte Durado Apts., We stayed in the upper level on the ground floor and were very happy with the place,upper level looks better than lower but there is a small hill to negotiate not a problem unless you are old or very unfit. We are all vegetarian so had a bad time food wise The Indian place provided the best food (really exellent food) but the service was spectacularly bad, but it was worth it so go early in the evening,keep an eye on your bill, and dont expect to be served too soon. The small supermarket just allong from Monte Dourado is cheaper than the ones in town but only opens 8-8. Also be vigilant for local rif raf using the facilities, no one but guests have permision, if you experience this phone reception. You will have a great time, its a smashing place

Hello Carvoeiro. My name is Eric and I'm coming out with my family on Thursday 25 May. Can anyone tell me are you allowed to wear socks with your sandals in Carvoeiro!!

Especially white socks are very fashionable, and don't forget a thick layer of white sunscreen on your nose! Bob hats are available in many local shops.

Great Site! I love it!

I was in Carvoeiro in 1999 with a girlfriend and we had a very nice time. Greetings and thanks to Paulo OFICINA BAR - world's best bar - and also to Cabek (I'm still waiting for the Rush-tape ...)

We both have too much work and there's actually no possibility for us to come back... We hate it!

So we take a look at the photos and hope for better times :-)

Why is it that mozzies are more prevelant in Carvoeiro than further East up the coast. We have been to Carvoeiro for the last four years and always get bitten, but previous two years to that we went to Vilamoura and Quinta Da Lago and nothing!

Don't forget to put suncream on kids even if it is cloudy, there is nothing sadder than seeing you walk around the village with BURNT children. Look after them, they'll thank you for it in a few years time!!! Buy electric plug in mosquito repellant and liquid or tabs in any supermarket or chemist, the liquid ones can be plugged in all day, the tabs have to be replaced. Even though you are using repellant close the shutters at night, the repellant is good but only if the mozzies can't get in. Trust me I know!!!

Just about anywhere! Current exchange rate - a litre bottle of Super Bock or Sagres works out at about 65p. That means you can drink about seven and a half bottles. Is that enough for you!

Hi! I've just discovered this website. Me and my family will be coming on holiday on 24th June. First visit to Portugal. We are staying at the Colina Village Apartments. Have just returned from first trip to Carvoeiro. (Colina Village, Magic of Spain, good). Praia de Marinha is beautiful (see pix on this website) Please Carvoeirians do everything to stop any more development around there. Also shocked at plans for development on Alvor Estuary, home to much wildlife. Please campaign now to save it - La Rocha organisation is - worth a visit there (Thursday AMs) if you're there on holiday. You'll see Portugal as it was before the bulldozers moved in. This is the first time I visit this site. I recently bought a house in Carvoeiro and was searching some information about the things I could do this summer over there. And thats when I got to this page. Mr. Webmaster, you've done a great job. I'm pleased that you treat and publicite so well 'our' little village. Recomar is pretty ropy too! Why not try some of the smaller furniture shops in say Lagoa or Portimão or sometimes for a good deal try the 2nd hand/antique place in Portimao too

Some recent positive restaurant experiences:

1. Maxime - Carvoeiro, probably the nicest place down-town. Elegant interior, very well prepared dishes, great service by John and Nathalie. Try the duck-breast!

2. Sambal - Portimão, recently changed hands. Offering a buffet of Indo-Asian food at 2.950esc. Live music by a singer every night from 10.00 p.m. Truly entertaining.
