Recomar is pretty ropy too! Why not try some of the smaller furniture shops in say Lagoa or Portimão or sometimes for a good deal try the 2nd hand/antique place in Portimao too

Some recent positive restaurant experiences:

1. Maxime - Carvoeiro, probably the nicest place down-town. Elegant interior, very well prepared dishes, great service by John and Nathalie. Try the duck-breast!

2. Sambal - Portimão, recently changed hands. Offering a buffet of Indo-Asian food at 2.950esc. Live music by a singer every night from 10.00 p.m. Truly entertaining.

You will love Carvoeiro, everyone who has been there has fallen in love with the place whether thay been young, old, single, married, with children etc.

The main beach in carvoeiro has easy access for pushchairs etc, however numerous beaches around the area are quite hard to reach pushing a buggy. Most of them have steep steps leading down to them. You can still access them with a buggy, but it will be slightly harder for you to get down then for others with their hands free. Don't let this put you off exploring them, they are indeed truly beautiful secret escapes and will probably be less crowded than the main beach.

CASA camaleao is a great villa and its only a 20 minute walk to the beach. Very nice and quite but you dont have to go too far to find some amusement.

Hi! We are staying at Monte Dourado on the 3rd of June for one week only. It is our first holiday with our six month old baby boy, Tom.

Three couples - the best places in the village are the Bistroquet (finish off next door in the Carvoeiro Bar), Chef Antonio and the Mistral. Also the places at Monte Carvoeiro are worth a look. Out of the village you must try the fish on the keyside in Portimao, but don't go on the front, walk round the back under the road where the locals go. If you like ribs or garlic prawns try out Tasca Luigui in Feragudo. It doesn't look much on the outside but is great value for money. Phil

By all means look at the site www.algarve.uk.com which shows a lot of good photos but mostly of Monte Carvoeiro.This is a fantastic resort located just above the village and also with it's own bars and restaurants plus plenty of easy parking. RE: Praia da Luz I am not sure, if there are any webpages you can visit for Praia da Luz, however the nearest Town is Lagos which is situated about 40kms west of Carvoeiro. There are some hotel guides online but I am not sure thos will be of much use to you. Unfortunatley there are not many town-dedicated sites like carvoeiro.com in Portugal. There is a long sandy beach called Meia Praia just across the river to the east of Lagos. The small town of Sagres is also worth a visit, it is situated 20 kms west, and is the most south western point of continental Europe (spectacular photo opportunities). From there you can start up the west coast to find a number of secluded coves along the west coast up to Aljezur. (Careful with the strong currents in those coves!!) 5kms east of Lagos, a bit further inland you will find a Dam with nice sorroundings for a family picnic. I would advise you hire a car for the duration of your stay and contact your local tourist shop for more info. Lagos itself has plenty of restaurants and bars for you to try out! And don´t forget to visit Carvoeiro! Enjoy your stay! René

To Tina & Family Re Areias dos Moinhos

My familty & I stayed at the Villa Alex on the Areias dos Moinhos complex, and it was fantastic. The villa had 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, private pool, it was just like being at home (without the pool!).

There are loads of villas on the complex, so if you are driving there from the airport I would do your homework before you leave as it took us nearly 4 hours to find our villa!! But when we did find it we weren't disappointed.

Nice comments about the cyber bars and the barman, maybe I should go and take a look now that the abuse has stopped. Isn't it nicer here now all the fighting has finished' I must admit that the Amália fight was better than the Cyber bar one!!! As you can see I'm a regular here. Nearest hospital is Portimão, there's not much to do with kids when it's raining. Of course you don't have private clinics in your country (Germany?), they are all here making mountains of money!!!!! We have two German clinics and a Dutch one, here in Carvoeiro. Monte Carvoeiro's is the best, his name is Dr. Pertl.

yes, the weather is pretty grim at the moment, with more rain predicted for this afternoon. The medical facilities are O.K, probably not what you're used to, it's still a bit primitive here at times, unless you go private. May I ask why your son has been in hospital so many times? Then I can advise you weather to come or not, but if my daughter had been so ill I wouldn't go anywhere.

We'll be coming to carvoeiro on saterday, is the weather really as grim as it seems? I have been checking the weather cam almost every hour these past few days. What does "dew point" mean, and what does "heat index" stand for? Does anyone know if it's likely to get any better in the next week? Re - Travel to Carvoeiro from Faro Airport.

Auto Jardim have offices in Faro and Carvoeiro. Better still I would suggest that you book a taxi or Mini Bus on 00351 282 357855. If you decide to book a car try Holiday Auto's who will hire you a car for the first 3 days and last 3 days of your holiday you must tell them that you wish to use Auto Jardim and leave/collect the car at their Carvoeiro Office. If you enquire/book the car via the 'Go' web site (www.go-fly.co.uk)you get a £20.00 discount - Good Luck.

Belvedere, is opposite Paraiso beach, it's a very nice house (or was when I babysat there about 15 years ago!)with a ground floor and a first florr. If I remember rightly the floors are wooden upstairs. The house is in a good area, not too far from the town, but far enough to be quiet. Paraiso beach is nice, but very small and loads of steps and in the summer it gets packed, what doesn't?! Hope you have a nice stay.
