Re. Monte. Well you really have got a bee in your bonnet about about something. For your information all the shops, bars and restaurants are privately owned - do you expect to put a gun to their to heads and force them to stay open all winter. Also bear in mind that people buying weeks in winter paid a fraction of the price paid for a summer week. Also they paid for the accommodation, which is of excellent quality, and not for an entertainment service. They probably also paid for a bit of peace and quiet to enjoy the Algarve in "the nicer months of the year" and not for a load of hustle and bustle.

REF:STAY AT MONTE. Never mentioned the "SQUARE" if you read it right. I was refering to the "Circle at Monte Carvoeiro", even the Portuguese cafe was shut along with most of the other places,there was a cafe,charity shop and supermarket open by reception and I suggest you take another look around up there,if you dont think thats tatty I would not like to see your idea of tatty.What about all the timeshare winter weeks that were sold to people,they expect the same standards up there in the winter as in the summer. There also was lots to do elsewhere in the village even in the late 80's.

Ref. to the stay at Monte Carvoeiro - to say that nowhere was open is a bit of an exageration. There are at least three restaurants and one bar open now even in the low season. So far as the "Square" is concerned it is not the least bit tatty but in the winter it is bound to look empty. If you want to make any comments at least make them accurate. The reason why the "Square" was busy in the late eighties was due entirely to the fact that the Developers were pouring thousands of pounds into live entertainments every evening from their massive sales profits. Don't tell me you were taken in by all the hype!!

Re -Golf Courses Vilamoura

It's a bit of a catch 22 situation at most golf courses on the Algarve. Certainly the ones in Vilamoura.

You can play in the heat of the mid day sun at a discounted rate, but in August it will be so hot that you will need plenty of water and sun block just to get round. The alternative is to hire a buggy, which then takes the price up to what you would have paid anyway! They operated this pricing system at Vilamoura's Laguna course last year, and if I remember correctly it cost about £80 for four of us to play plus two buggies.

Just returned from a weeks holiday stayed at Monte Carvoeiro.This was about our 30th visit to Carvoeiro and we still love it. Weather was fine,the village is still the same good old place.My only complaint was that nowhere open at all in the Monte Restaurant Circle,in fact whole place looking a bit tatty,nothing like it was in the late 80's early 90's,has anybody else noticed this?.Would be interested in your comments. Monte Reception only seems to be interested in praise,not complaints.

I am packing my bags and will arrive in Carvoeiro on Friday! Only problem is, I am having trouble deciding what to take! Since It is cold and covered in snow here I am having trouble believing I will actually experience warm weather again. What can I expect? The big new building on Rua do Farol is gonna be a hotel, and I think they are doing their best to make it look nice. There is one problem though, the owner died in a car-accident about a month ago. The real problem is not people using soft drugs but all the drug related crimes. Carvoeiro does have drug problems. Over the last 2 years we have been burglared 6 times. The police just shrugs and each time tell us the burglars are teenagers stealing to pay for their drugs. Even when we caught one of them in the act, the police just let him go because he's a minor. I have no problem with people using soft drugs but I don't want to pay for them.

This is for all the people against soft drugs (like cannabis and hashish). I'll bet that they drink and sometimes get drunk. Alcohol is the worst drug in the world and how many people have been killed by drunk drivers, drunk spouses, etc. On the other hand, people who smoke cannabis, etc. are very mellow and do not hurt anybody, including themselves. Do not be so narrow-minded. Instead, educate yourselves properly about these drugs. They will soon be legalized just about everywhere. What are you going to do then? Hide in your homes in case we kill you? Get serious!

What's happening to the message board?! It used to be full of questions from people who wanted to know more about Carvoeiro. Now we seem to have undesirable people asking about undesirable things! For people like me who came to know about Carvoeiro through this website and have been back many times and love the place and it's people - will those undesirable people please go elsewhere!
