Re: Childs car seats.

I have travelled many times thru Faro airport using various car hire firms and have had no problem obtaining kiddies seats. I find it strange that your travel agent can not pre book the seat. For peace of mind if the car hire firm is one of the 'majors' i would contact my local office and get them to sort it, or failing that, get the email address of the firm at Faro and ask them yourself. Have a great time.

Mike

Re: Car Hire & Advice.

We have always booked our car through Carjet who tend to use Budget at the Airport Terminal.

It's easy to pre book car seats with them ~ however check the installation of the seat YOURSELF ~ don't assume they know how to put it in properly.

If you can cancel your booking without any charges, then it is worth a look.

Enjoy your stay !!

HELP, advice/info required;

Will be visiting Carvoeiro in March for a long awaited and much needed break. Iv'e hired a car in advance and will be bringing my two year old daughter along. The problem is the travel agent was unable to pre-book a suitable car seat for my daughter. They said that it "shouldn't be a problem to arrange this on arrival."

Does anyone know if this is true? Are suitable car seats available to hire from all major car hire firms and if so how much will it cost?

Thanks very much in anticipation of your helpful responses.

Adrian.

Thanks for the info on Sesmarias. One more question if you don't mind. How long would it take in a taxi to go into the nearest town? Thanks again for your response.

Came back from area on Monday. Stayed in Sesmarias, a car is a must have. It is only a small village only one restaurant within walking distance and two LOCAL bars. We stayed in a nice apartment, however are car was vandalised on Saturday night, which was not a pleasant experience. Personally I would not stay in the village again. First piece of crime in 25 visits along the Algarve.

Re: vigilante group.

I would suggest you get some people together and hire professionals (Securitas, Prosecom, Prosegur, etc.) rather a than going around yourselves.

I hate to think about some trigger-happy houseowner on a saturday-night tequilla buzz going around impaling the neighbours cats with his old crossbow..... Hang on, that actually sounds like fun.

Can anyone tell me about Sesmarias near Carvoeiro? Is it within walking distance to shops and restaurants. What's the place like? Is it far from the airport, I can't find anything on the web about it. Grateful for any information anyone can give.

Make sure that your houses are well locked up at night. A cat burglar is about who can enter noiselessly through very small windows. Takes cash only and seems to be about at around 4am using socks on his hands.

Police not much interested in catching him as usual. Anybody interested in forming a vigilante group?

To Doreen and Mike, re Afinity Villas, had a good at the web site and was a little taken aback at their peak season prices, very good site but very heavy prices. I won't recommend on this site alternatives as it's not an advertising site. Very glad you enjoyed it though.Target this year for a 3 bed villa with pool should be about £1100 per week or less.

We have just come back from a lovely restful break in our favourite town. This time we booked with a new villa company, and the house was fantastic. The people who run it obviously know and love Carvoeiro as much as we do. Take a look at their web site www.affinityvillas.com Doreen and Mike Barratt

For a long time now i have really enjoyed reading the many bits of news on this site. My family love the Algarve and it sort of allows us to keep in touch with the place. I think there is some narrow thinking behind the recent comments and it only serves to lessen people's enjoyment. Come on everyone and make a bit more effort to make it the vibrant site that it has been for a while. Perhaps it's time to re-define what the site is here for?

Replying to Len King (message 24th January). Having just returned from 2 glorious weeks in Carvoeiro, no, I didn't get the feeling that we were being ripped off over the euro. In fact, quite the contrary, and it makes converting prices much easier than the escudo. Regarding the entry on 20th January about the new golf course, it is BOAVISTA just past Lagos, and it is superb. New championship course, still looking for business so reasonably priced. Play it before it really takes off and the fees rocket up to the equivalent of most other courses. I shall be back next month to play it again. Dennis G

Dear Len King,

You can go wherever you want in the Euro zone you will find people who want to make a profit out of the currency change. The Algarve is not different.

Worse, maybe. It´s hard to tell as there are not many tourists here yet and quite a lot of establishments are still closed. Ask again in a few months, you will probably get a better picture.

Do take into consideration though, that we have inflation that justifies a 2-3% increase plus the state is going to increase VAT on some alcoholic beverages (This could mean an increase of 7 to 12% depending on the product).

I'll be happy to make a page available for a local "foreign residents" club, where this kind of issues could be discussed, please contact webmaster@carvoeiro.com if you have suggestions!
