Smugglers Beach I think is another name for Carvalho. You take the road out of town past the taxi rank/phone caravan and head toward Benagil. You will pass the Almansor (?) Hotel on your right. As the road goes off to the left some way on you need to carry on down a narrowish road with the development called I believe Alga Parque on the left. About 500 yards on is a car park and you then take the steps/tunnels down to a nice sheltered beach. You'll usually find some brave soul jumping or diving off the cliff. Beach is maybe three miles from the centre of town. Enjoy yourself !

just returned from carvoeiro ,very hot .stayed at hotel crystal where the bar staff were brilliant .met a lovely couple from wales who could speak (hollish)fluently (specially after a few lagers) .anybody going there has to try the chip shop ,just down from sullys it is fab.the jailhouse is a must for a good night .
