Just returned from our 4th visit to Carvoiro - as usual lovely and hot, friendly people and super eating places especially Galle (book early). We usually visit Antonio's several times but found this year that some of the staff seem to be unhappy at their work & service not as good as previous years.

Question - Who is responsible for all the graffiti in the village? - every roadsign / notice board being plastered with black paint and obviously the handiwork of the same idiot. Such a pity that such a beautiful resort is being spoilt by the 'work' of one moron.

Regards Hugh

Just returned from another wondeful holiday in Carvoeiro staying at the Almansor. Can recommend the hotel and especially the views forthe balconies and the terrace bar. We think that the local peopl;e are the friendliest you can meet anywhere, even in the restaurants! One of the best places to eat anywhere is "le Bistroquet Restraurant - good food, lovely (Russian) staff and exceptional value. Lokking forward to next year. PS: Does anyone know of a 4 bedroom/4 bathroom villa with pool and tennis courst very close to Town centre? John Warburton

Parents use lots of suncream on your children, even when it is dull, they can still get burnt. It's not nice to see small children burnt because parents are'nt careful. Make kids use a hat and drink lots of water, don't let them get dehydrated, look after the little ones

People be warned - McDonalds is not the only fast food chain I'm sure in all of Portugal, nor in all of this world. But if you take a good look for those who have been in North America where there is so much of the fast food chains one would see the growing numbers of Obese individuals. And North America has the most Obese individuals in the world. It is a sad fact. I'm sure the Portuguese are not stupid...take it from one that is Portuguese and lives in North America...I still take the portuguese food any day over the Fast food industries. Too many people are dying of clogged arteries and strokes, young and old alike...too much fat intake....so take care of those arteries and eat well.

The Big One, Mothercare, Marks and Spencer, C&A Shell, BP, and all the other foreign companies have been here for years, all the staff speak Portuguese, you still can't understand what they are saying and they still can't understand what you are trying to ask for. McDonalds won't be any different, you should try Portimão, it's an experience!! Lighten up everyone, maybe you'll get some real Portuguese food served in the resturants for a change, but i don't think many will like it!!!! Why do all the resturants have Tuna salad, omlettes and hamburgers???? It's what the tourists want and it's where they make most money!!!!

Having been out of season when it is very wet and cold I fully understand what you say about having somewhere for kids to go. I also appreciate that the Algarve is not just for the tourists, and it is good what they are doing for the Fire Service. I am just trying to say that when we arrive in the Algarve it is lovely to hear the language, see the buildings, everything about going to any different country, it is just a shame to see a McDonalds (or it could be any of the other majors) in the middle of all this, it sort of shatters all illusions.

McDonalds are giving the Lagoa fire service around 6 million escudos a year for the next 25 years. All you "Anti McDonadls", pray that you never have to call out an ambulance whilst you live/stay here, they are a real eye opener! No, I don't really like my kids eating there, but I think it is all part of growing up, being able (or allowed) to meet friends, order some food, have a good time and not have to pay too much. I would rather know that my kids are there than wondering arround the town. Give us a break, Algarve wasn't made just for holiday makers, people who live here also have a right to enjoy life, even if that does mean eating at McDonalds. When the season finishes and it's raining, cold and dull what else can we do?!!!

GO seem to be the best for competitive prices, we have just bought an extra seat to fly out of Manchester with Monarch and have had to pay £227, the same flight cost £190 in January. We know people who fly with GO alot and they seem to pay that sort of price for 2 flights.

If you want to insult people ("u dutch crap") I would suggest that you improve either your typing skills or grasp of the language you're using. Perhaps an adult should keep an eye on your PC usage. We're one of the thousands of families who visit Carvoeiro regularly, and it's a little disturbing that one or two morons try to spoil the high quality of this site with personal insults. Help, please. We're hoping to come out for two weeks from 21 July but flight prices seem very expensive - £200 plus. Does anyone have any experience or view that might help us ? Is it worth hanging on for last minute deals or should we just go for it now. Companies we're talking to tell us as dates we want coincide with the start of the (UK) school holidays we may have a problem. Perhaps a travel agent browsing the site could provide an objective view. Hoping to fly from East Mids./Birmingham/Manchester or any of the London airports. Many thanks.

It's all about image, its up to the individual where they eat or what they feed their children, but 2 or 3 fast food outlets in Carvoeiro would do nothing for the aesthetics of the village. Incidentally the burgers from the shopping centre should taste the same as the ones in Lagoa, I thought they were the same the world over, I leave it to VAF to sum up exactly what they taste like! I know that the McD's is being built on the fire station site, but how does it support the fire station - do they make the burgers? If so they may taste better!

look thats the good thing of Mcdonalds because now restaurants can stop serving burgers and fries and send them to Mcdonalds believe me restaurants owners hate serve burgers and chips u talk about local food why most of the tourists go to german and dutch restaurants in Carvoeiro like happys, patio, Carvoeiro bar, sullys, stone steak and more why dont go only to portuguese places about greece u should know a bit more of greek history long time ago about this sex in the streets thats not Mcdonalds fault, about the new shopping center i have been there only ones and i problably never go back there again because is crap but the new McD in Lagoa i will go because i know i am supporting our local fire department

Yes all kids love McDonalds but most of the parents I know would prefer their children NOT to eat there, I may be missing something here but on holiday I would prefer my kids to try the local foods and if that fails most of the restaurants sell chips/frys burgers or sausage so it is not a problem, but it is nice for them to experience different cultures. I also see that a new shopping complex has opened near Guia with a McDonalds, Burger King and KFC, what did we eat before! Just look what the tourist industry has done to Ayia Napa, very few Greek people live in the village now, few families go there, the little pot shops make no money and the Greek children grow up seeing people having sex in the street, ok I am being extreme, and maybe I read too many newspapers so what the hell, I am lucky in that I can choose not to return.

To the Ross clan and Jane and Tucker We have just returned from Colina Da Lapa and have had a fantastic time. The weather was roasting and the staff were excellent. The accomodation is unbelievable - particularly if you get a two bedroom villa. It has a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, iron and ironing board, big fridge freezer, free air-con and a hair dryer. So you won't need to pack your travel iron and hair dryer. Unfortunately, it's well out of the way but they put on a courtesy bus to take you to town and the beach. Although all the accomodation is complete, they are still finishing the main restaurant and there is still some landscaping going on. But it really doesn't disturb you. There are some right characters there such as Victor, the singing waiter (Get him up on an Elvis number on Karaoke night) and the bus driver who won't "Vamoos" until he has tuned into "Radio Nostalgia." It appears to be exclusively English and there are plenty of opportunities to mingle. If you are on an All inclusive, like us, the entertainment is very limited in the evening and you are better off taking some money and getting a cab into town every other night. I'm sure you'll have a good time there and if you are going in July, the landscaping will look fantastic. Shaun and Heather.

We are regulars to Carvoeiro! We stay in Sesmarias. We would recommend 'Casa Rustica' restaurant by the Water Tower in Sesmarias - not far from the town. Also 'Via Italia' at the top of the hill in the town centre - order 'capriccio / lasagne'!. We agree that Palacio do cone is the best ice cream shop in the world. The crepes are not bad either! There is also an Indian Restauraunt nearby where the owner is a Bollywood film director! This restaurant is near the Stone Steak (which is also gorgeous) at Monte Carvoeiro.

Have a good time - J & S (England)

We stayed at the Monte Dourada in May for 2 weeks - (stayed there last year and were very impressed) Excellent facilities in appts. especially for families - dishwasher, washing machine, full size cooker, iron, etc. Quietly situated, but less than 10 minutes from restaurants, village square etc. Although we don't have children, would recommend Happy's - excellent value and good food, but you do need to book. also Jota Lita's again very friendly and good value. Hope you enjoy. Sue
