( i dont think so my friend never trust politics they say anythink before elections)

Thanks to those who replied to my query about the whether the World Cup would be televised in Portugal. Pleased to know that I can enjoy watching the games live enjoying a glass (or two) of Sagres. However, owing to the time difference some of the matches will start at 7.30 AM which is just a litle bit too early to start drinking!! Thanks again Hugh (Wales)

Thanks Len,

You're right it's all getting a bit too negative here. After all this, New York seems a safer to go on holiday than Carvoeiro. Last week the foreign residents had a meeting with the new "mayor" of Carvoeiro, I was there and got the impression they are going to do something about the problem. I personally notice that when the local police do their nightly patrols like they used to do, it is safer in the streets, burgulars and drugaddicts go to other villages, because they don't want to be seen...

Other matters discussed in the meeting are the dirt on the beach, which is going to be cleaned all year-around now; the lightning throughout the village is going to be improved starting with Rua do Barranco (future pedestrian area) and Rua dos Pescadores; the bins are going to make place for underground-depots; pavements are being arranged all over the village right now!

So let's be a bit more positive.. Hope to see you soon Len,

Hans, Oasis

To the person who heard "not very good comments about Sesmarais/Carvoriro". I've been going by air and road/ferry for the last 15 years, 2-3 times a year. Need I say more?. Forget your fears, it's gods little acre! Len Billinge PS The web site gets better every year.

I once read a rather clever (I thought) advert that said 'Travel narrows the mind'. That's different from what we usually think;namely, that it broadens the mind. It made me think that there was some truth in the alternative phrase. Someone experiences something bad when on holiday in a particular place. It makes them think that it's representative of the place and so they don't go back. Maybe it was a 'one-off' experience.I'm certainly sorry that it happened.

To the person that asked about Sesmarias, I can only say that I've been going there about 3 times a year for the last three years and haven't had any misfortune/vandalism/burglary. I find it a great and restful wee place.

Unfortunately with the arrival of the Cosmos complex Sesmarias is not the same quiet little oasis. There has been a lot of building work, new villas etc,but at least Rosas bar still remains, albeit with proper pavement and kerbs. Jay
